I didn't make it to my ridiculous goal of 500 new episodes of television in 2011, but I darn near got close with an official count of 410. (It would probably be more like 425 due to numerous Colbert Report episodes I never counted but hey.)

This list includes: click to see my most-watched shows of 2011 + stats )

Anything else I should be doing stats for?
Total hours of television watched, I'm kinda intimidated by the idea of summing that up..

My computer cord finally died on me so I had to wait like 10 days for the replacement to be mailed to me. SO SLOW GAH. And it finally arrived this afternoon. x___x

What have I been doing in the meantime?

1. Finished my finals for first semester - and for the record, I got 2 Bs and 3 As. I'm freaking excited! My parents don't even know since I first saw my grades yesterday at like 11pm at a party.

2. Made tons and tons of things, kinda. Here's a TARDIS and lots and lots of Pokemon: Pikachu, Shuckle, Mew, Charmander, Squirtle, Clefable, Ponyta, Lugia, Articuno, and all four original Pokeballs. With plans of waaaay more on the way, it's just what I've done according to the colors I have, and when I had them. Lots of blues and reds and yellows, not so much greens or pinks. Hence lack of Bulbasaur. (Which is now a total of 71 different ones, so I could probably make Six's coat if I didn't mind the eystrain.)

3. Set up my Etsy store again. Only has three items right now, but this is my fave one and apparently the internets agrees. It's so lovely and I had fun putting it together and experimenting.

4. Dyed my hair red today. It was brown with reddish tint to it (not in that pic much) but it grew out like whoa, so now I'm more of a red/auburn!
Spent like four hours today doing it (and by that I mean my little eleven year old sister put gloves on and did the whole process herself which was about three hours worth of work - she did it last time too and it was fantastic, and this time she cut my split ends off for me and it looks nice)

5. Watched movies + caught up on House, Ringer, and much more QI. So for movies, I've seen Winter's Bone, which was brilliant and made me way more excited for Jennifer Lawrence in Hunger Games, and Gattaca which is now my #1 fave hardcore science fiction movie ever. I didn't expect to cry at the end so all of a sudden tears was whoa. And then I watched the extras on the DVD and the 'epilogue' that they cut out at the last second just took my breath away and sent chills down my spine at the end. I need a version where it's left in. Omg. Could probably write a whole post on how fantastic Gattaca was in every sense. It's from 1997 and I swear it was written for 2010, it's so, so relevant and I'd love to see it be in curriculum for genetics classes if it's not already.

6. Went to the most amazing Christmas party that a friend hosted. I was with old and new friends for 12 straight hours and made so many more inside jokes and moments that we'll never forget. Had tons of homemade foods and desserts, watched Muppets Christmas Carol, played a rather action-packed game of Spoons (it isn't fun until someone gets hurt) and lots of just wonderful socializing. Met my evil twin who is crazy awesome. She's an English major, we spoke with British accents for an hour or two. she looks very much like me down to the hair and glasses, ships the same alt!ships for Harry Potter fandom, and even recognized my cross-stitched TARDIS which surprised me. :D

7. Finally achieved my goal of getting one million NP on Neopets. Yeah, you heard me right. The games are addicting and free, and I have friends who've stayed on as long as I have (seven years now) so it's nice to reconnect. Totally used other computers to do it of course, for maybe an hour or two a day, but it's nice and relaxing and I've always wanted a million points in their game currency and now I have it. \o/

8. I also saw a very dear friend of mine in a great production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, and had about five other mutual friends come too. He was the most hilarious Malvolio ever and I had to keep covering my mouth because I couldn't keep a straight face. Every time I turned around to hide my laughter, at least one of my friends had tears running down her face or had their heads hidden. It was great. :D

Meme time!

...considering I missed the first two classes, I picked up relatively fast on the movements (it's like choreographed stage fighting at this level, which I'm pretty good at) and I'm really enjoying it.

BTW, Karate is replacing Freshman English cause I PASSED THE EXAM! :DDD

And I'm still fighting what the doctor classified as an upper respiratory infection - like a bad head cold where your head feels like brinks, throat burns, and you use a box of tissues a day.. I've had this since.. a day or two after the hurricane... missed work Tuesday and wound up with a fever, got that managed today and went to classes (was at school 8am-7pm, easily my longest day) but felt really bleh, and I'm working tomorrow. 9am-7pm. Pray it does not go longer than that or I may die. Still have to have some homework done for Friday's history quiz and I don't feel up to it and I don't wanna rush. :/

For anyone wondering about hurricane Irene: I'd *just* finished watching Doctor Who when the power went out - and stayed out for about 4 1/2 days. Those were interesting times. But at least I could distract myself by WTF-ing over the latest episode!

The other thing distracting me lately is which looks like the beginnings of an epic ARG for The Hunger Games movie, due in 2012. AAAH HOLY CRAP THE SYMBOL.
Two days ago it was nothing but fuzzy, pixely distortion, then it was a little clearer yesterday, and now it's perfect. There was some Morse code bleeping in the background but it seems to have gone, and the 'Acquiring Signal' in bottom left is usually where the Twitter login is. I'll check it tomorrow and see what's up. ARGs are SUPER SUPER FUN when done right, and I participated in the Dollhouse ARG like.. forever years ago between seasons 1 and 2, via Twitter and game-centric sites and it was an absolute blast. 'Hacking' into Rossum, trying to help this agent out.. I still hear from my fellow CTPs every so often and I look forward to one where I can be even more involved.

Ew, must medicate and sleep. Thankfully my temperature's not creeping up again.

In exactly a week from right now, I'll be at the bus stop for NYC, and leaving in a week plus two hours. <33

Random: I painted my toenails this nice shiny purple b/c it seemed like the best course of action.

...and it hasn't even started. @___@ WHAT. UP.

Cut because I'm being nice to my flist late at night )

In the fandom world, Lucie Miller ([ profile] ohgodcrocodiles) has settled in nicely at [ profile] brb_gallifrey and even met some new friends (and a sort-of adversary) and I'm super super excited. It's fun and addicting and totally keeps me up late at night.

Speaking of which. It's almost 1am and I have to get up at 7. Nnnnngh. @_____@

TL;DR: Don't expect to see me around the internet until like Monday. Except then I'll probably be sleeping or knitting to make up for the lost time on both. xD;

OH YEAH I FORGOT TO MENTION. MADAMA BUTTERFLY WAS EPIC. My first opera, and it's the one that's playing when the Doctor flatlines on the operating table in the TVM. I'm such a dork. And 'cause I promised some people, here's a pic.
shinydinosaur: (angel: puppet)
Was gonna update last night before all hell broke loose - the start of a migraine that lasted from 11pm to 6pm the next day. I slept from 5-11am and it was still there.

So anyways. I've been busy the last two weeks, both on and off-line.

- introduced my oldest friend to the Fifth Doctor (and Adric) via sleepover involving marathons of Castrovalva and Four to Doomsday. She loved them and we snarked our way through. Also introduced her to Eight with the TV Movie (she loves him now too) and a gift of a CD of most of S1 EDAs. In-between that we marathoned the last eight Dollhouse episodes of S1 that she hadn't seen yet. So that's a grand total of 13 hours of awesome. We were up until 5-6am before we crashed and finished the last three hours after dinner.

- finished babysitting for my coworker as she's moved to SC. Said goodbye to her and her little boy, and I'll miss them both. She said she considered me family, which means a lot. I watched him learn how to walk over the course of a few months, and he mimics me saying "all gone" when I finish giving him meals and ushering him out of the kitchen - I  mean, that'll stay with me forever. <3
- decided to finally jump into a Mafia game at [ profile] whedonland which I'm incredibly excited about. It starts tomorrow. I'm Wash, and the cast list has both [ profile] lias9  and [ profile] sourpony , so that's exciting. :D
- finally watched Caves of Androzani all the way through with [ profile] harbek and [ profile] spoofmaster late at night and had a great time. Despite it being Fivey's last serial and all. He really is badass, even when in pain/dying. I then made this to commemorate it.

- got through the Big Finish Doctor Who EDA 2x06 (I think), Grand Theft Cosmos and I'm really loving Lucie being Eight's companion. A LOT. So with quite a bit of encouragement, I app'd her for RP at [ profile] brb_gallifrey as [ profile] ohgodcrocodiles . It's a bit nervewracking and exciting all in one, especially since she's my first Doctor Who character (and non-Whedon character) to play - and my first relaxed-yet-structured RP comm, if it works out.
(I'm usually Wash - [ profile] shinydinosaurs and I've also played Giles - [ profile] ripperthegreat in mafias and silly cracky things.)

- THIS over at SWS with Wash. It's so adorable!
- And THIS at SWS with Giles. LOOOOVE.
I have been updating my two TV-related posts as needed. I'm doing really well on the 500 episodes a year so far (It's only mid-March and I'm on #109 now) as well as the what I watch post. I've already started/finished all of IT Crowd this year alone (although I hear rumors of a series 5) as well as The Cape (except the unaired episode), and Secret Diary of a Call Girl will be ending in a week.
shinydinosaur: (Default)
I wrote this short futuristic sci-fi story for a paper for my American English class last November and was cleaning out my computer and found it... I thought it was pretty good, although I don't remember exactly why we had to write it, and I think I got like a B on it for kind of missing the point of the paper or something? Anyways, I wanted to share.

March 7, 4061. That’s when it all started. )

Well, how bad was it? :P
shinydinosaur: (Default)
Because I've got so much going on in my wonderful RL that I've gotten so behind in my fandom life. And I really want to be able to balance them both well.

Fringe episode - 6995 kHz (I'm two episodes behind)
About 32 minutes in (with commercials), I could have sworn that Astrid was in the middle of saying to Walter "Maybe you reversed the pol-" as in, polarity? As in, neutron flow? :D
See, this is my fangirl brain going haywire. PS I think I'm starting to ship Walter/lady in charge of Massive Dynamic. In a strange sort of way. Like Astrid/Walter. The friendship is awesome there. Also: massive hating of Peter/Alt-livia ship. I didn't use to be like this but they forced me to hate it.

Fringe episode - The Abducted
The guy is all like "It's the Candyman. He's back."
My immediate thought: (The Kandyman) Is this a bad thing?
PS: should I be scared that when I searched for 'kandyman' on Google that it said "Related searches: 'bloody mary'."

Doctor Who - the Christmas special is gonna be aired in the US on Christmas with the UK airing for the first time in forever. I'MSOHAPPY. <333 Plus THIS PICTURE. Fighting withdrawals now. I wanna make icons with this even though I'm only just decent at the art.

Buffy reboot without Joss - I'm not liking this one bit. Only way I'd like it remotely right now is if SMG was Buffy again, even if Joss wasn't involved. Plus it's a reboot so there's no Giles/Willow/Xander. NOTHX.

House - I'm just irritated by the previews for this current week's episode. I don't even care that my DVR screwed up and only recorded the second half. I'll get to that episode eventually before the next one airs but I don't like the thought of another people-with-religion/faith/Jesus-are-idiots/wrong episode, because I KNOW I'm not an idiot, which is the massive vibe I'm getting from just the previews.
shinydinosaur: (lulzy steering)
([ profile] gildedmuse, you demanded a "full report (of course) of the whole big damn thing", and a full report you shall have. Some mighty impressive TL;DR is here, and I expect you to read it all. XD
Don't say I didn't warn you.)

I'd love to know if anyone else went, and what they thought. (Or even if you didn't, comments are loved) You probably saw me running around snapping pics or whirling on the dance floor, if you attended.

The following is lots of my recollections rather than just a simple report on the event, so apologies if the only thing you wanted to know was textbook details. :P

PS: I was a terrible Bounty Hunter. I recognized all but two people but was so timid to actually go arrest people that I only caught one Outlaw. :P
shinydinosaur: (bliss)
So I'm stealing a page from [ profile] bishojo_kitsune's book and making myself a reminder post. Nothing too fancy but it'll be useful to keep my thoughts and priorities collected.

Hi, self. Pay attention later, there will be a test. Or you will forget something and fail epically. We don't want that. Especially me.
Self, click here. F-list, you guys can read along and comment too. It'd be helpful. )

I think that's it, self. So go to bed, be smart, listen to me tomorrow. That is all.
