Current things I am obsessing over (and one thing I am not)

Because I finally have a moment to breathe, although I've been feeling sore and crappy the last three days and now I feel like I can't sit up without losing my dinner. I also use "obsess" loosely, as in many cases it's just simply some kind of intense focus, whether temporary or not.

Also because I'm distracting myself over the fact that I still have not had time to watch the last Doctor Who (or any other show placing second or below on my TV priorities list).

Sidenote: I passed my karate midterm today! Had to perform the first two katas I learned over the course of a month, and I did it despite being so nervous I was shaking afterwards.

List time!

Music:
The Luckiest - Ben Folds (beautiful haunting lyrics and bittersweet and I could cry listening to it. I can't even sing half of it without jumping between octaves, dangit.)
We Will Not Grow Old - Lenka
(these two songs are from the beautiful Rory fanmix I found and yet I haven't been able to get these two off repeat)
Good Morning Starshine - Hair (2009 revival cast) - again, the song is so sweet and happy and yet I found myself wanting to cry somehow? I love not-typically-happy music.
For My Father Fast Asleep - tl;dr some friends of mine are this indie band and this is their newest song.

TV: Not that I have time for it, but...
Doctor Who - The Girl Who Waited and the one after that with the creepy hotel both had moments that made me cry. Loved them.
Battlestar Galactica - I'm so ridiculously close to being done with like seven episodes left and now I don't want it to end. ;___;
Ringer - saw the pilot and I'm intrigued. Gonna give it a few episodes to find itself before I decide, but the premise isn't too bad.
The Colbert Report - yay for informative, comedic satire!
Glee - I'm in it for the music/staging/guests at this point, and have been since most of season two.

Theatre-related:
Aida (opera) - I'm going to that tomorrow night, it's student night, but a lovely friend and I are going to dress up all fancy and have fun. :D
The Drowsy Chaperone - hoping to go to this on Friday night but I'm not sure how well that will work out.
Phantom of the Opera (25th anniversary) - Oct 11. Much like Les Mis and Company, the actual performance is being filmed and screened in a city next to mine and I plan to go with my mom.
Fiddler on the Roof - a very good college friend of mine is in a production of it next month, and I'm totally going. :D
Rent - another friend of mine is producing/directing a community theatre version, in rehearsals now, and I'm so proud of him and now that I've met his Roger (in New York, also standing at stagedoor for Rent, funnily enough) I just have to go. He's got a kickass Mimi casted, too.
Godspell - it's in NY (and yes I just went there) but the cast I know of looks great and I'd love to see it although that would be another $150-200 trip just to see it. *sigh*

RL:
Friendships - I (mostly) stopped worrying about impressing and flirting guys a few months ago when I broke up with my boyfriend and have simply focused on just forming friendships and getting to know people. I've noticed lately, I'm able to just be relaxed and be more myself and have fun.. I got "hundreds of extra brownie points" today while talking after class with two of the guys in karate because I knew what a particular meme was and was laughing and discussing it with them. Also I can talk Pokemon games with the best of them. >:D

I find this happens particularly in my karate class group. Probably because it's a very physical, interactive class, so I get to know people faster.. I mean, when you have to grab someone by the neck or arm or whatever and do a defensive maneuver that is rather tricky and you're pressed up against them, it's nice to know them first before being OHAI I AM IN YOUR FACE. Also, I'm one of three women in a class of about 15 or 16.

Funny story, my awesome college friend who loves musicals and singing/acting and is finally learning about all the great shows out there, we were talking today and I swear this is the conversation verbatim:

Him: hey, that woman on Glee with the dark hair, she looks like she'd make an amazing Elphaba.
Me: Lea Michele - I mean, Rachel Berry? Ohpleasepleaseno.
Him: No, the one that plays her mom.
Me: ...Idina Menzel?
Him: Yeah, her!
Me: ...she was the original Elphaba, so...yeah.

Congrats on the karate midterm! You are a boss. :)

Thank you! I practiced rather a lot, and they honestly aren't hard when you think about it.. a 14-step and 16-ish step one, if you're being technical about how many movements you're making, and even then it's really 7 and 8, repeated on both sides of your body.

Plus it's a class that demonstrates practical self-defense through natural body movements, which is good to learn.

Glee- what you said. I just can't deal with anything else without rolling my eyes or getting angry.

Also LOL at that conversation. That is too funny.

Glee.. yeah. The storylines are ridiculous and everything is overplayed and soap opera and I stopped caring a long time ago. It's now a train wreck that I can't look away from, with occasionally cool music or choreography or guest stars.

Yepppp pretty much. It had a lot of awesome potential going on in S1 and it just kind of all went to hell and nothing has lived up to the awesome of the pilot.

Oh my gosh I just watched this movie with Alan in it and couldn't stop thinking about you <3

[identity profile] shinydinosaur.livejournal.com 2011-09-29 02:50 am (UTC)(link)
Alan... Tudyk?!

WHICH ONE TELL ME TELL ME NOW

[identity profile] sourpony.livejournal.com 2011-09-29 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
Who do you think I'd be talking about?! Haha, Tucker & Dale vs Evil, it was so flipping funny.

Oh and I found this rp comm that I was thinking about app'ng as Zoe at but then I was like I can't without my Wash! Plus you had mentioned creating one way back when so I've been trying to think up another character to maybe app as.

idek alan cumming but who cares, tudyk is the best

WHAAAAT. I have been dying for that movie to come out for like a year and a half! Plus stalking its release status for over a year. HOW DID YOU SEE IT OMG.

Awwwww. I miss my Zoe! It's so sweet that you thought that. If I wasn't so busy with work and school I would be RPing way more.
I've given [livejournal.com profile] ohgodcrocodiles (Lucie Miller) a Twitter and I was wondering, it wouldn't be hard to give Wash one and then just tweet from my phone during the day as him between classes and while I'm at work, that could be a short RP option.

Well I do like Tin Man and Reaper Madness....

Really? It was on my tv! I dvr'd it and like just finished watching it. I could look online for links since it was on my tv it might be online somewhere? I hadn't heard of it but they showed a commercial so I set it and then watched.

Yeah I'm just bored so I have time on my hands even though not as much in front of a computer than before at work, weird.

Oh I know a lot of people who do that for Game of Thrones, I follow them and it's hilarious to see what they come up with.

[identity profile] shinydinosaur.livejournal.com 2011-09-29 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oooooh WHAT. You must have like, on demand or something, I think it was there. PLEASE look it up online for me, that would make my week! Holy crap.

Bleh, if only I had any free time with a computer. And my Firefox is messing up, I can't even download anything (it acts like it is and then it's not in my downloads folder) and I don't know how to fix it. :/

Haha, yeah, my problem is being original and getting back into character- not just for Wash, but all of them - rather than quoting lines. I'd totally interact with your Zoe though, and I think [livejournal.com profile] crumplysnorkack already has a River Twitter account. Maybe we can play around with that Jayne account that I follow, hah!

I don't think so, just Directv but who knows? :)

Don't use firefox, I use chrome and when that happens I usually have to close all my browsers or restart my computer because something is hanging somewhere.

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JRMPL6C3 This is the one I used but I don't think it opens with WMP, I use KMPlayer cause that's the same program I use to screencap and it seems to be working fine. If that doesn't work for you I can look for more but most are either in pieces or deleted.

That would be so much fun to have the whole crew twittering around on there but I've been feeling the same way. Just out of practice I think :)

Holy crap, you have made my life thank you thank you!!

Chrome can download, it just always seems like it's going ten times slower than when FF does it, and Firefox is super stable (except now which is worrying).

Aaah yeah, definitely out of practice. I'd love it if we could do that though.
