Good news: This is finals week for college so my mind's a bit scattered but after that, I've got lots of free time on my hands and I've been fighting stress by stitching a lot. And the complements from college people are really motivational.
I also have an 89 in my test average for math which is amazing. No idea what my total grade so far is but shouldn't be lower than an 80.

Bad news: I frikkin got fired from my job after all that hard work busting my ass running that studio - and the district manager never asked for my side on anything, just sent a message to the temp manager at my studio who'd been there a few weeks and told her to let me go. :| :| :|
So woo, no stable income and next semester is creeping up on me in exactly a month. Also I totally just sprained the top of my foot and walking on it is painful as hell. I'll get a bandage wrap for it tomorrow and then time to hunt for the crutches if it's like this Wednesday.

Other good news: I'm probably going to start making really awesome things with my geeky stitchery and selling it on like Etsy and local markets and stuff. Anything from magnets to pendants to phone charms or maybe even keychains - I have a feeling that a good deal of this will be commissioned because I can do literally anything with the finished piece and I can make it exactly how you want it. So if there's something you have in mind, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

As far as actual pricing, I have some guidelines in mind but I haven't bought any of the jewelry/charm/magnet/felt stuff which will probably need to be factored in. Once I know how much that will run me, I'll be able to list fair prices and all the other logistics.

And now, I bring you the awesome.

Mew, Shuckle, Pikachu, and Lugia

Lugia is what I'd consider a large sprite for obvious reasons. Took three hours to make, everyone else came in around two hours.

Pokeballs, Great Ball, Ultra Ball, and a Cascade Badge.

Each one of these took an hour to make - the Pokeballs would be excellent necklaces, magnets, or phone charms, for example. I also plan on making the Master Ball to complete the original pokeball set and then get the colors to make all the original badges.

surprise!non-Pokemon geekery: Rupees (Legend of Zelda)

The picture quality here is the best I could do but I assure you they are vibrantly colored and look fantastic in person. I can do SO much with these (they'll be individual pieces) so it's gonna be fun to experiment. Three hours total to stitch.

I also have a really cool Zelda-inspired project I'm working on for [livejournal.com profile] harbek and [livejournal.com profile] gildedmuse and myself that the former gave me some great suggestions for during a four hour chat to make it even more awesome, and when it's properly set up I'll start posting pictures. Again, very customizable.

AND WHY STOP HERE? There's only eighty bajillion different video games I can work with, more than a few fandoms that lend themselves to sprite-friendly things (Fezzes! Mario! TARDIS!) and I've already gotten a request from a friend to make a phone charm of a character from Adventure Time. Hah. :P

Post is public and comments are screened by default - anything with addresses/personal info in them will stay hidden.

I'm sending cards out again this year! Leave me your address to get a little piece of mail all your own. I did an exchange last year for Christmas/New Years/winter and it was a lot of fun and fueled my creative spirit. The sooner you comment, the more time I have to think of something cool for you. :D

Details:
- Cards will be send mid-December and will be totally generic/random. If you celebrate a holiday & would like a holiday card, please let me know. Or you can request getting some awesome postcard from who-knows where (at random from a pile of postcards I picked up all around Europe + my lovely state of Virginia), although I can't send a separate object with it is the only downside.

- Request stuff! Anything small that can fit in a regular card envelope is fine - story, haiku, doodle, handwritten letter, photograph, etc. List your top three fandoms/characters and I will see what I can do if you want to be surprised.

- I don't mind if we don't know each other very well, but I do ask that I at least know you & have interacted with you on LJ/tumblr/twitter/some other social network. (If I do know you well, expect awesome.)

- Yes, I really do like doing this. No, I don't expect anything in return. Getting something personalized in the mail is rare and fun, and the price of a stamp is a small price to pay for that.

- It doesn't matter where in the world you live, I will send you a card. Even especially if you live with unicorns.

- Addresses are kept private and I don't hang on to them after the cards are mailed. Which also means if I sent you something last year, I need your address again if you want something this year. :)

Meme time!

Two posts in the space of 30 minutes after not posting for two weeks? I'm gonna asplode.

Except they need proper backing and stuff to not fray from use, and I'm not sure how to do that and I don't have time. I made all of these about.. four months ago? Maybe five? and talked about them on LJ but never posted pics anywhere. Thinking about making some for Christmas gifts, although depending on who it's for, tone down the geeky or make like, idk, kittens or something. XDDD

My favorite, I think - and it's too cute! :D

My second favorite - totally beautiful but took forever to make.

I adooore this -and I can maybe even tweak it, add color or something else.

Definitely a challenge to make - but it made me laugh every time. Semi-obscure (depending on what group of fellow geeks I'm around) musical reference.

WIP - I could do so much with this if I had the time/creativity.

SUGGESTIONS? COMMENTS? TOO MUCH GEEK? TOO LITTLE GEEK? LET ME KNOW!

So I've managed to procure some internets on my dad's computer, slow and virusy as they may be. And as I'm behind on my personal schedule to start posting pics of my secret project, I'll attempt to do a grouping now.

The only people I know of who knew of this project were [livejournal.com profile] harbek, [livejournal.com profile] chibichimera, [livejournal.com profile] platoapproved, and probably another person or two whose username I can't think off off the top of my head, and even fewer who have seen said project, and none who have seen 100% of it. SO.

Cut for dramatic effect... )

Hehehe...

I've officially started the hair-coloring process. Got my little sister to help me make sure every bit of my hair was covered in this nasty foam that smells like someone dumped a bottle of soy sauce on my hair but it's a lot redder.

In about 15 minutes I'm gonna go wash it out and finish the process. :D

In other news, my laptop's fan is dead and I'm amazed at how long I've managed to keep it working. Still under warranty, so I don't have to pay anything! Just have to wait three weeks for them to send me a new one. Sigh. Hopefully I can borrow my mom's Mac or something while they're gone next week, and can reinstall the cross stitch program to finish more of my secret project.

iPod battery's about to die, and need computer to recharge, so this may be the last thing I get to post in a good while. Ta!

It is also 1:50am now so I am surprised at how well i am being coherency stuff. Tho I wrote lots of this like maybe some hours ago and now it's been like 20 hours awake on like 5 hours sleep why am I still awake alive even

My second day of job training was excellent. (I have a badge now you guys. I'm LEGIT.)

My boss gave me instructions on how to use our huge studio camera and gave me like 10 minutes to play around with manual settings to get the feel of it, then set it to default (as far away as it goes as high up as it goes) and timed me on like four different shots, defaulting the camera each time. It's a monster to operate especially as I'm left-handed and so I can't use it like I normally would to take pictures. My time went down from like 36-42 seconds to about 14-20 by the third drill and she was ridiculously impressed with how great the pictures of her were cropped and shot.

Also progressing nicely on my cross-stitching. I estimate about 13 hours have gone into what you see here, although right now it's about 15 hours total and I've got the top of the head filled in. Pleeenty more to goe before I'm any where near done.

(this isthe bit I am writing at almost 2am how did I stay up this late like 22 hrs now i am a zombie)
In other news, Tucker & Dale vs Evil is FINALLY FREAKING FINALLY getting a release date of something like september 26 or 27 or something around then. Totally excited just hope it's in a theatre near me. been waiting like over a year and a half for it or something and it's like the best or most anticipated movie never released XD

And... I am going to bed why haven't I already I feel like I'm gonna just fall asleep right he
shinydinosaur: (dollhouse: brilliant idea)
First off, my Farmer's Market table was a rather good success this morning! I stood at my area for five hours and sold two things (and fixing a bracelet that's good-as-sold), but hey, $20 is $20. I was the only table there with knits and jewelry; everyone else was food or garden-related. I had many many complements, one of my favorites being that I'm a "young knitter", and several great ideas relayed to me in order to adapt what they thought was already something great into something even better.

OH LOOK. MY STORE. PIMPAGE. AND LOADS NEW JEWELRY.

Even if you fun f-listers do nothing but comment as to what stuff you like/dislike, that would make me happy. Things not listed yet: Firefly-inspired mp3/phone/anything carrier, same item but in camouflage, (I had another different one but I soooold it~) epic earrings I made of a gorgeous necklace that broke (and some scarf stuff that you can see in that second linked pic like the 8ft "electric snake" scarf that I adore).

And it seems like most of my April is totally packed with crazy and fun things!

April 3-8: making alpaca-related things; visiting recruiter; making TJ watch either more Doctor Who or Chess in Concert; probably streaking some temporary pink in my hair; prepping for NYC (and technically the other trip as well); getting my babysitting money I've waited for for like a month to help with both.
April 9: Alpaca Fiesta Festival! Sell awesome knitted things. Finish packing.
April 10-11: Head up to NYC on bus - see Born Yesterday at the very least, I HAVE to go eat at the Life Cafe this time, and especially chill/geek out with/glomp [livejournal.com profile] harbek and meet other awesome people I am told. :DDDD
April 14ish: Go home and wash like everything I just brought home.
April 15: Go see friend's play, spend night at boyfriend's house.
April 16-19: Get up EARLY, 6+ hr roadtrip to bf's future college and current place of my best friend <33; more roadtripping to Tennessee, then home again.
April 20-21: Get home, sleep for a month. /end
April 23: WAKE UP LONG ENOUGH TO WATCH DOCTOR WHO AND FREAK OUT.

TJ suggested to me that we bring Les Mis and "you can finally introduce me to Chess!" on our roadtrip, lawl.

Things I *will* be bringing:
- Doctor Who audios (specifically with Lucie, and hunt down the ones with the Word Lord)
- Looots of music. Probably burning CDs for the second trip to save iPod battery.
- Knitting to do (if I'm not sick of it by then, hah): RENT scarf, ipod cases, whatever.
- Camera! Journal! Ways to be creative and express my thoughts!
- Probably my external harddrive for the second trip at least, for chilling out and catching the bf up on Doctor Who (or trying to) during some downtime. Plan is to go through the specials (minus Planet of the Dead, boring) and charge through the epic of season five.

++ Picked up my gorgeous dress from the tailor today, 'cause I'm going to the opera tomorrow! Did like 4-5 hours of late-late-night volunteer work for an opera gala thing last month and got free tickets, which I quite happily surprised my boyfriend with. He, in turn, is taking me out to a reaaally nice fancy place for dinner beforehand, which I haven't been to since our first date almost eight months ago. :3

++ Ate something! Lawl, I mean like solid food-food. Chicken salad for dinner! I'm still getting over this obnoxious cold/sinus thing, and apart from water/tea in the last two days I haven't eaten much other than tomato soup with crackers for two different lunches and some cereal. I'm trying to keep eating regularly but it's hard when you're sick and just *not* hungry.

++ Watched the series finale of Secret Diary of a Call Girl. Yeah yeah, guilty pleasure show, but it was fun, crazy, rather silly at times and had some great season arcs and great characters. Too short! Seasons 2 and 3 were my favorites, I think. It's an addicting show, and I never thought I could even get (that) attached to a 20-minute soap-opera/drama series. Also. BEN. IL Ben SO HARD. I adored him when I started watching and apart from Callum Blue's character ('cause I've had a crush on that actor since 2004) he's my fave on this show.

++ Job hunting: not going so well so far. Gaaah. If I could do transcription for a company or something, that would be ideal. I'm a fantastically fast typist, very good with spelling/grammar, and have a good ear for words. Or even more babysitting. Just SOMETHING. :|

++ Unrelated to everything but is made of win: I want THIS shirt. So very, very badly. Saw it when it first came out and am now reminded of its existence. Only thing better would be to assemble the costume itself (I found fabric you can buy online for his pants!) which would be much more time/money consuming.

++ I made some awesome jewelry, which you can see/love/share (or buy!) RIGHT HERE at my Etsy store, along with most of my yarn-made goodness. (If you're interested in anything, let me know what you think of pricing 'cause I'm still getting used to working it out.)

I'm making more still, but this is what I've done so far:

I doubt it'll sell very quickly, which is why I'm also going to be trying to sell it at the First Friday morning thing downtown next Saturday - it's usually much easier to sell it in person than online (plus no shipping fees).

IT'S MY FIRST NON-SCARF THAT ISN'T A POTHOLDER!

So I knitted something cool, showed it to [livejournal.com profile] narrativeliving  and had the following conversation:

Her: And gloves do well on etsy, I've seen

Me: Well, they do well year-round, I should think.
Scarves are mostly a winter thing.
unless they're fandom-related.
like Harry Potter or whatever.

Her: True, unless they're fa- YOURE IN MY MIND

Me: XDDDDD
I KNOW RIGHT
I DO THAT
PARTLY PSYCHIC, YOU KNOW

Her: I feel like I just got Inception'd
~~~~~
HERE'S THE AWESOME THING YOU GUYS.
Took me four hours to make and now I have to make another. It's just that I'm using knitting needles that could probably fit inside a pencil and they hurt. And you know that cool pattern on the glove? Yeah. That thing is a pain in the ass to do but looks so nice.
And now I'm going to bed because I'm super tired 'cause I didn't take a nap earlier 'cause I made this instead. /END
