Good news: This is finals week for college so my mind's a bit scattered but after that, I've got lots of free time on my hands and I've been fighting stress by stitching a lot. And the complements from college people are really motivational.
I also have an 89 in my test average for math which is amazing. No idea what my total grade so far is but shouldn't be lower than an 80.

Bad news: I frikkin got fired from my job after all that hard work busting my ass running that studio - and the district manager never asked for my side on anything, just sent a message to the temp manager at my studio who'd been there a few weeks and told her to let me go. :| :| :|
So woo, no stable income and next semester is creeping up on me in exactly a month. Also I totally just sprained the top of my foot and walking on it is painful as hell. I'll get a bandage wrap for it tomorrow and then time to hunt for the crutches if it's like this Wednesday.

Other good news: I'm probably going to start making really awesome things with my geeky stitchery and selling it on like Etsy and local markets and stuff. Anything from magnets to pendants to phone charms or maybe even keychains - I have a feeling that a good deal of this will be commissioned because I can do literally anything with the finished piece and I can make it exactly how you want it. So if there's something you have in mind, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

As far as actual pricing, I have some guidelines in mind but I haven't bought any of the jewelry/charm/magnet/felt stuff which will probably need to be factored in. Once I know how much that will run me, I'll be able to list fair prices and all the other logistics.

And now, I bring you the awesome.

Mew, Shuckle, Pikachu, and Lugia

Lugia is what I'd consider a large sprite for obvious reasons. Took three hours to make, everyone else came in around two hours.

Pokeballs, Great Ball, Ultra Ball, and a Cascade Badge.

Each one of these took an hour to make - the Pokeballs would be excellent necklaces, magnets, or phone charms, for example. I also plan on making the Master Ball to complete the original pokeball set and then get the colors to make all the original badges.

surprise!non-Pokemon geekery: Rupees (Legend of Zelda)

The picture quality here is the best I could do but I assure you they are vibrantly colored and look fantastic in person. I can do SO much with these (they'll be individual pieces) so it's gonna be fun to experiment. Three hours total to stitch.

I also have a really cool Zelda-inspired project I'm working on for [livejournal.com profile] harbek and [livejournal.com profile] gildedmuse and myself that the former gave me some great suggestions for during a four hour chat to make it even more awesome, and when it's properly set up I'll start posting pictures. Again, very customizable.

AND WHY STOP HERE? There's only eighty bajillion different video games I can work with, more than a few fandoms that lend themselves to sprite-friendly things (Fezzes! Mario! TARDIS!) and I've already gotten a request from a friend to make a phone charm of a character from Adventure Time. Hah. :P

Post is public and comments are screened by default - anything with addresses/personal info in them will stay hidden.

I'm sending cards out again this year! Leave me your address to get a little piece of mail all your own. I did an exchange last year for Christmas/New Years/winter and it was a lot of fun and fueled my creative spirit. The sooner you comment, the more time I have to think of something cool for you. :D

Details:
- Cards will be send mid-December and will be totally generic/random. If you celebrate a holiday & would like a holiday card, please let me know. Or you can request getting some awesome postcard from who-knows where (at random from a pile of postcards I picked up all around Europe + my lovely state of Virginia), although I can't send a separate object with it is the only downside.

- Request stuff! Anything small that can fit in a regular card envelope is fine - story, haiku, doodle, handwritten letter, photograph, etc. List your top three fandoms/characters and I will see what I can do if you want to be surprised.

- I don't mind if we don't know each other very well, but I do ask that I at least know you & have interacted with you on LJ/tumblr/twitter/some other social network. (If I do know you well, expect awesome.)

- Yes, I really do like doing this. No, I don't expect anything in return. Getting something personalized in the mail is rare and fun, and the price of a stamp is a small price to pay for that.

- It doesn't matter where in the world you live, I will send you a card. Even especially if you live with unicorns.

- Addresses are kept private and I don't hang on to them after the cards are mailed. Which also means if I sent you something last year, I need your address again if you want something this year. :)

Two posts in the space of 30 minutes after not posting for two weeks? I'm gonna asplode.

Except they need proper backing and stuff to not fray from use, and I'm not sure how to do that and I don't have time. I made all of these about.. four months ago? Maybe five? and talked about them on LJ but never posted pics anywhere. Thinking about making some for Christmas gifts, although depending on who it's for, tone down the geeky or make like, idk, kittens or something. XDDD

My favorite, I think - and it's too cute! :D

My second favorite - totally beautiful but took forever to make.

I adooore this -and I can maybe even tweak it, add color or something else.

Definitely a challenge to make - but it made me laugh every time. Semi-obscure (depending on what group of fellow geeks I'm around) musical reference.

WIP - I could do so much with this if I had the time/creativity.

SUGGESTIONS? COMMENTS? TOO MUCH GEEK? TOO LITTLE GEEK? LET ME KNOW!
shinydinosaur: (up to no good)
..cause I've been frikkin busy. 3 weeks in a row, I'm clocking 25 hours of work a week and 13 credit hours. So every spare moment of my life is taken up. On the plus side, my paycheck tomorrow (before taxes) is $412.

HEY GUESS WHAT. I went to the chiropractor last Monday! I already feel amazing although I need to go ideally 2x a week for 4 months or so - and my schedule barely lets me go 1x a week and that's in-between classes even. Definitely a stretch. Fortunately my new class schedule for second semester means I don't have super long days anymore and all last classes end at 1pm!

That paper I'm supposed to turn in tomorrow about my future career, for that class that told me last week how to write resumes and do job interviews/applications? Yeah, I haven't done it yet. Cause I've been working all the time. Hi, irony. You're looking sharp today.

Last week I used every tiny second to finish my first actual cross-stitch project, which I proudly present here.
Took me 5 months off-and-on, but 2/3rds of it was done by month three. The face was about.. 15-20ish hours to do, just the outline of the hand/flower was about three hours and probably 6-10 to color in, words take about 2-4 to stitch and color... I lost count after that. x_x
Start date: June 6 - End date: September 25ish.

I'm also thinking about doing some cross-stitch gifts for Christmas. Probably sticking with bookmarks and stuff since it's easier, depending on my work schedule during my college break. x___x;
shinydinosaur: (Topher: not unlike pride)
So I've managed to procure some internets on my dad's computer, slow and virusy as they may be. And as I'm behind on my personal schedule to start posting pics of my secret project, I'll attempt to do a grouping now.

The only people I know of who knew of this project were [livejournal.com profile] harbek, [livejournal.com profile] chibichimera, [livejournal.com profile] platoapproved, and probably another person or two whose username I can't think off off the top of my head, and even fewer who have seen said project, and none who have seen 100% of it. SO.

Cut for dramatic effect... )
shinydinosaur: (monty python)

So I've gotten all craftsy lately. Decided to start work on a mesh bag that can hold my yarn or something or just look really cool, and then decided I REALLY want to finally start my cross-stitch learnings. So went and got a little DIY kit and it's coming along great (just need to add the outline and I'm done). I actually think I love it more than I ever thought I did.  It's really relaxing (except when you totally mess up a bit) and doesn't hurt my wrists or fingers and I can get through something small in a few hours. Which is good, cause I've had a ton of cross-stitch projects just sitting on my computer begging to be done and one of them is for a friend's new baby.

I also bought a pair of size US 50 knitting needles, because they were on sale and I've always wanted some. Even if they are bright cherry-red. (For the 95% of my f-list who don't know what that means, they look like these green ones and you can knit like 3-4 strands of yarn together at a time depending on thickness.)

And then I looked up other things because I'm insane like that, and based off of about 300 reviews I must have read, I've settled on this near the top of my wishlist: Except not this version and not with these really ugly pictures on it.  I'm not gonna make sweaters to start, but I'd love to do a blanket or poncho or something flat first.

Someone tell me I've lost my marbles already.

I start my new job on Tuesday at noon, which is super exciting. I really should write up my two-weeks notice letter and take it to my old boss tomorrow. *shiftyeyes* She's a bit sketch when it comes to stuff so hopefully this will go over smoothly.

I've also decided I'll do an easy cosplay of Faith from BtVS at the Serenity/Dr Horrible event next week, and a super-secret-awesome possible cosplay in the works for if I go to Dragon*Con which will probably take up a decent  portion of my free time this summer to make.

Mostly a list for me to refer back to (I like ticky boxes!) but also you guys can poke me and prod me and make sure I'm not on here until I've accomplished my goals for the day. So yeah.

Major priority: have at least 15-20 puppets done by the morning of Saturday, April 9 (the due date). 'Cause the more I make, the more I have to sell!
Ideally I'd like to see 25, meaning I'd need to complete five per day (aka something like ~ 8-10 hours of work per day - which I really don't see happening). x_X I have three completely done now, two bodies done minus parts, and one body ready to be assembled. So basically by tomorrow I'll have six done. YES I AM A BODY FACTORY WHY DO YOU ASK.

I think I could easily do three a day, though, if I'm working on them all throughout the day and not just in one clump that would make me want to scream.

April 5 - take mom and grandpa on errands (yay driving, I actually enjoy it), go see friend and streak my hair pink with her (yes you heard me right, pink) and be awesome in general, finish the 3 puppets, make at least 3 more puppets (and listen to Lucie audios!)

April 6 - make sure I do my pimpage for [livejournal.com profile] whedonland, start on [livejournal.com profile] brb_gallifrey anniversary shenanigans, continue w/puppets and audios. Also go get bus tickets reserved. (They're super chill about everything, whee ghetto bus, I think the bus was like maybe 3/4 filled last time? Plus we had people just sort of showing up and paying and getting on that night.)

April 7 - continue on brb_g sekkrit stuffs, puppets, editing and finishing list of things to pack for NYC (and other roadtrip I should hopefully be going on a day after I get back)

April 8 - PUPPETS LIKE WHOA HI THERE. Get as many as completed as possible and at least make a bunch of bodies to work on at the festival (adding parts doesn't take as long)

April 9 - Alpaca festival! Working there, hopefully selling some knitted things (sadly, not taking my jewelry with me) and the puppets should do really well, and then crashing when I get home. And then starting on packing.

April 10 - PAAAACK. After all, I'm leaving that night/Monday at 12:30am for NYC! :D

THE REST IS HISTORY. WHICH HASN'T HAPPENED YET. CAUSE I'M COOL LIKE THAT.
shinydinosaur: (Default)
Not that it's horrible, more that it's a terror to make because it takes so much time, the way I did it.
Today alone, I worked on it for about three hours during the afternoon and then from 9pm to... now. So today alone I spent almost 10 hours (granted, sewing it shut took ages) and I was 98% done before today. I must have worked on this at least 25-30 hours. But SO WORTH IT.

I also got the scarf done before I see my boyfriend tomorrow after babysitting. Mission accomplished!

Okay, so. Fibonacci scarf. It's a math thing, the pattern.

What it looked like when I just got it off the needles.

Final product.

The pattern also does cool things when you turn the scarf like this:

PS if i need to LJ cut this for pics just someone tell me because i'm like so tired i'm dead right now and am going to bed soon so i can get up in like three hours. kthx.

In other news: I'm basically going to be internet dead for the rest of the week, so I think I can check my f-list once before I sleep at night, or maybe twice depending on the day but that's about it for me. Not too much activity. I'm babysitting 60 hours in 8 days this week. Already did 8 hours yesterday. Then it goes something like 8, 8, 10, 8, 10, 8. for the next seven days. no tv, no internet, but I do have a 1 year old to care for and a DVD player and lots of dvds that I think I've seen so many times I could quote them all. gonna bring new ones this week. am i going to die? maybe.
shinydinosaur: (Fivey: marauder)
Man, my life is busy as heck lately.

So here's a quick update before I get my 5-6 hours of sleep. (EDIT: Quick? Lawl, took me the better part of half an hour to write all this. So I'm categorizing, cutting, and chronological-izing to save you all the trouble of trying to decipher my jumbled thoughts.

I'm determined to get the rest of the Pokemon I need to complete one whole Pokedex. >__<

Diamond

Missing: 1-151 ) Total: 17

152-251 ) Total: 62

Missing: 252-386 ) Total: 49

Missing: 387-490 ) Total: 31

Final total: 159 missing of 491
shinydinosaur: (Default)
So yeah. I've got the most on Diamond right now, and I'd like to get another chunk completed before Black/White comes out and I get even more behind. If the Pokemon name is in italics/not listed, I haven't even seen it in the game yet.

If any Pokemon geeks with wifi are out there, I'd love your help. I can breed just about anything that's not listed here, basically, and I don't mind hatching eggs given to me but it's such a pain. For some of the rarer non-legendary Pokemon, it'd be great if you just gave me an egg, or at the very least did a double-trade.

LJ-cutting for your sanity.

Legend:
(egg) - I can hatch this from another evolution. Lowest priority.
(evolve) - I can evolve the previous form to get this. Medium priority, as it takes time.
(SS) - I can trade this over from my SoulSilver game. Higher priority, as I don't have a secondary DS system readily available.

Pokemon I've seen in-game but need )
Pokemon I haven't seen in-game )

I think I'm gonna pull out some GBA games and see how far I need to go in those before I can start transferring Pokemon over. I wanna at least get all the legendaries/needed/version-exclusive Pokemon before I do mass-dumping into my Diamond/Platinum/SS games, since it's irreversible. And then when that is finally completed, I can put my DS Lite towards the price of a 3DS in March/whenever I get back from boot camp.

EDIT: DUDE I TOTALLY PALPARKED OVER A SHINY RAICHU FROM EMERALD. YESSS.
shinydinosaur: (Default)
IT'S DONE IT'S DONE IT'S DONE IT'S DONE IT'S DONE OMGOMGOMG.
20ish hours of work put into it and it's finally up for sale!

I'm incredibly pleased with myself now.
Figured I'd say something about it here. Also pimping my Etsy store, cause it's in there.

Here's the whole thing.

Here's how wide it is in full.

Now to sneak off and start work on my BF's super sekkrit awesome gift. I did take your advice, f-list, and got lighter green. It's Medium Thyme now rather than this dark forest/navy.

Next up after his scarf, when I get the money (or donated yarn) are some Harry Potter scarves.
shinydinosaur: (story of a girl)
OKAY SO. HERE'S WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING. I NEED YOU GUYS' HELP.

I'm just gonna go all out and post my pictures of crafts that I made for the purpose of selling (because I'm SO keeping my RENT scarf although I might be persuaded to make more, and there's another two scarves I can't be made to part with for anything) and you guys tell me what you think of them.

Constructive criticism is loved although I'd be happy even if you just said you liked something.
Without further ado: )

So, yeah. Thoughts? ^^;
