I'M BAACK~

My computer cord finally died on me so I had to wait like 10 days for the replacement to be mailed to me. SO SLOW GAH. And it finally arrived this afternoon. x___x

What have I been doing in the meantime?

1. Finished my finals for first semester - and for the record, I got 2 Bs and 3 As. I'm freaking excited! My parents don't even know since I first saw my grades yesterday at like 11pm at a party.

2. Made tons and tons of things, kinda. Here's a TARDIS and lots and lots of Pokemon: Pikachu, Shuckle, Mew, Charmander, Squirtle, Clefable, Ponyta, Lugia, Articuno, and all four original Pokeballs. With plans of waaaay more on the way, it's just what I've done according to the colors I have, and when I had them. Lots of blues and reds and yellows, not so much greens or pinks. Hence lack of Bulbasaur. (Which is now a total of 71 different ones, so I could probably make Six's coat if I didn't mind the eystrain.)

3. Set up my Etsy store again. Only has three items right now, but this is my fave one and apparently the internets agrees. It's so lovely and I had fun putting it together and experimenting.

4. Dyed my hair red today. It was brown with reddish tint to it (not in that pic much) but it grew out like whoa, so now I'm more of a red/auburn!
Spent like four hours today doing it (and by that I mean my little eleven year old sister put gloves on and did the whole process herself which was about three hours worth of work - she did it last time too and it was fantastic, and this time she cut my split ends off for me and it looks nice)

5. Watched movies + caught up on House, Ringer, and much more QI. So for movies, I've seen Winter's Bone, which was brilliant and made me way more excited for Jennifer Lawrence in Hunger Games, and Gattaca which is now my #1 fave hardcore science fiction movie ever. I didn't expect to cry at the end so all of a sudden tears was whoa. And then I watched the extras on the DVD and the 'epilogue' that they cut out at the last second just took my breath away and sent chills down my spine at the end. I need a version where it's left in. Omg. Could probably write a whole post on how fantastic Gattaca was in every sense. It's from 1997 and I swear it was written for 2010, it's so, so relevant and I'd love to see it be in curriculum for genetics classes if it's not already.

6. Went to the most amazing Christmas party that a friend hosted. I was with old and new friends for 12 straight hours and made so many more inside jokes and moments that we'll never forget. Had tons of homemade foods and desserts, watched Muppets Christmas Carol, played a rather action-packed game of Spoons (it isn't fun until someone gets hurt) and lots of just wonderful socializing. Met my evil twin who is crazy awesome. She's an English major, we spoke with British accents for an hour or two. she looks very much like me down to the hair and glasses, ships the same alt!ships for Harry Potter fandom, and even recognized my cross-stitched TARDIS which surprised me. :D

7. Finally achieved my goal of getting one million NP on Neopets. Yeah, you heard me right. The games are addicting and free, and I have friends who've stayed on as long as I have (seven years now) so it's nice to reconnect. Totally used other computers to do it of course, for maybe an hour or two a day, but it's nice and relaxing and I've always wanted a million points in their game currency and now I have it. \o/

8. I also saw a very dear friend of mine in a great production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, and had about five other mutual friends come too. He was the most hilarious Malvolio ever and I had to keep covering my mouth because I couldn't keep a straight face. Every time I turned around to hide my laughter, at least one of my friends had tears running down her face or had their heads hidden. It was great. :D

Good news: This is finals week for college so my mind's a bit scattered but after that, I've got lots of free time on my hands and I've been fighting stress by stitching a lot. And the complements from college people are really motivational.
I also have an 89 in my test average for math which is amazing. No idea what my total grade so far is but shouldn't be lower than an 80.

Bad news: I frikkin got fired from my job after all that hard work busting my ass running that studio - and the district manager never asked for my side on anything, just sent a message to the temp manager at my studio who'd been there a few weeks and told her to let me go. :| :| :|
So woo, no stable income and next semester is creeping up on me in exactly a month. Also I totally just sprained the top of my foot and walking on it is painful as hell. I'll get a bandage wrap for it tomorrow and then time to hunt for the crutches if it's like this Wednesday.

Other good news: I'm probably going to start making really awesome things with my geeky stitchery and selling it on like Etsy and local markets and stuff. Anything from magnets to pendants to phone charms or maybe even keychains - I have a feeling that a good deal of this will be commissioned because I can do literally anything with the finished piece and I can make it exactly how you want it. So if there's something you have in mind, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

As far as actual pricing, I have some guidelines in mind but I haven't bought any of the jewelry/charm/magnet/felt stuff which will probably need to be factored in. Once I know how much that will run me, I'll be able to list fair prices and all the other logistics.

And now, I bring you the awesome.

Mew, Shuckle, Pikachu, and Lugia

Lugia is what I'd consider a large sprite for obvious reasons. Took three hours to make, everyone else came in around two hours.

Pokeballs, Great Ball, Ultra Ball, and a Cascade Badge.

Each one of these took an hour to make - the Pokeballs would be excellent necklaces, magnets, or phone charms, for example. I also plan on making the Master Ball to complete the original pokeball set and then get the colors to make all the original badges.

surprise!non-Pokemon geekery: Rupees (Legend of Zelda)

The picture quality here is the best I could do but I assure you they are vibrantly colored and look fantastic in person. I can do SO much with these (they'll be individual pieces) so it's gonna be fun to experiment. Three hours total to stitch.

I also have a really cool Zelda-inspired project I'm working on for [livejournal.com profile] harbek and [livejournal.com profile] gildedmuse and myself that the former gave me some great suggestions for during a four hour chat to make it even more awesome, and when it's properly set up I'll start posting pictures. Again, very customizable.

AND WHY STOP HERE? There's only eighty bajillion different video games I can work with, more than a few fandoms that lend themselves to sprite-friendly things (Fezzes! Mario! TARDIS!) and I've already gotten a request from a friend to make a phone charm of a character from Adventure Time. Hah. :P

Meme time!

This took about four hours to create as an entry, thanks to all the hunting I had to do. SO worth it, even if it's nearly 2:30am now.

Decided to go back and find good moments of my past Mafia games - the one where Wash was an assassin with River and was totally leading on Simon and Zoe, the (only?) one where I was Giles, the one where Wash and Simon get drunk, the one where events were so epic that it led to a full-on crack!ship and a banner to commemorate the Wash/Simon/Illyria ship (and my headdesking a lot) or the reaaaaally early game where [livejournal.com profile] lias9 was assassin!Zoe and was trying to double-cross me and then things went wild.

If any of the players in my f-list have any good stories/memories, please comment!

EDIT: I've only gone through that one jjmafia game, but I believe I've covered all the ones I was in for whedonland. I'll have to go find the other mafia comms and games, if I'm even able to, like the Villains one or speed games, but if anyone who tracked entire mafia posts still have links in their notification area, that'd be awesome.

What I've found so far:

My first mafia game as Giles (I do believe it was my second or third Whedonland game)
*Unfortunately, I was killed on day one or two or something, but being a ghost was nice. Also had [livejournal.com profile] harbek as a great Topher, which I really miss.
Giles/Adelle and Adelle/Simon. Heee.
A great little moment for Giles.
Simon and River. <33333
Somewhere along the line... someone decided that Justin Beiber must clearly have been an assassin. So there were votes and speculation about him. XD

One of many wlcaritas games, but memorable to me for this:
*Note: Wash is an assassin, River's an assassin, Simon's a healer, Illyria's a mason, and I remember doing my best to skip Wash around Simon during the day and be bffs while asking to keep him alive in assassin chat (because I love [livejournal.com profile] lias9 so dang much as Simon) - and according to some, Wash getting "jealous" of what became the Simon/Illyria ship.
Day 8: Wash and Simon go to the bar - following the death of Zoe.. and Drusilla shows up
This is just a cute drunk!Wash moment..
Day 9: Wash sees Dru
Day 10: Simon's the seer. (Again.) Wash and Simon have an adorbs moment.
Night 14: Wash dies and there's Simon/Wash insanity and tempertantrums. In-character. <3
Night 15a: Simon and Wash snarkage.
Night 15b: more snark!
Day 16a: ghost!Wash vs ghost!Illyria
Day 16b: more snarkage and OOC
Day 17: ghost!Wash and Simon and ghost!Illyria

My awesome shiny banner by [livejournal.com profile] sucksucksmile/Anya after it was all done with. (All the assassins got one and we even gave one to Simon for being an honorary assassin, I think.)

The clubjj Mafia game of epic
* Basically, the game was dragging on so long that I felt we were all just waiting for it to be over, but didn't want to be bad sports and arbitrarily quit or declare game over. So Wash gets stressed and eventually just snaps and becomes evil. It was a lot of fun and helped lighten the mood a lot, plus it gave us something to focus on after voting.
Part 1: Wash snaps.
Part 2: The kidnapping goes weird
Part 3: surprise!Jayne and lightsabers. Also probably the only time I can use the phrase "I'm a leaf on the wind" as a threat.
Part 4: Second Notice
Part 5: Goodbye, Penny.

ETA: I FOUND IT I FOUND IIIIIT OMG OMG OMG.
THE ONE WHERE [livejournal.com profile] lias9 IS ZOE AND I'M WASH OMG.
The dates of this thing were June 9-13th, 2010. I had to go SO far back in the archives for this one. ..what the heck HOW was that only almost a year ago?? It feels like at least two years omg. WE'RE ABOUT TO HAVE OUR ONE-YEAR ANNIVERSARY DATE. I'm almost positive that this was my very first Whedonland mafia game, so it's special. Introduced me to a lot of mafia friends, and looking back I now see a lot of familiar names in the rosters. Ah, good times. <3
Oooh, and [livejournal.com profile] harbek as Claire?! Totally forgot about that, but re-reading it it's just as epic as I remember. I believe [livejournal.com profile] kasiopeia was our very fun Jayne, too. :D

Here's a bit of Zoe/Wash. Still trying to find what made it so good.
Hee. Short but adorbs. <33
Zoe/Wash FTW
Wash getting defensive.
And then I think this is where Zoe's player starts thinking Wash is setting her up.
Oooh. Here's some great Topher/Claire interaction. [livejournal.com profile] harbek and [livejournal.com profile] afrocurl make it look easy. <333
The last day thread. Wash is scattered in there quite a lot with Zoe and River and all.

OKAY SO LAWL. I ordered my bus tickets online and they were $20 each. And then the site was like OHEY, ROUNDTRIP? $10 OFF! So I just got a roundtrip to NYC for $30. DUDE. WHAT IS THIS. :DDDD

In about 2 1/2 hours I'm leaving for the bus stop, and then the bus leaves right around midnight tonight. Spending the two hours waiting by knitting and listening to the last two Eighth Doctor season two Lucie audios. Planning on sleeping the 6-7 hours on the bus so I'll be well-rested. The last thing I need is another 20 hour day running off four hours of sleep and then texting things like "I was sitting down a lot except for when I wasn't" (trufax). Espeeciially considering Monday night is the NYC Doctor Who s6 premiere! I WILL BE IN THE *SAME PLACE* WITH STEPHEN MOFFAT AND MATT SMITH AND KAREN GILLAN AND ALEX KINGSTON AND ARTHUR DARVILL. AAAAAAH!

Also, yanno, my original intent of seeing Born Yesterday with RSL. And being with awesome people youknowhoyouaaare. <333333

Staying in New York until Thursday, getting home that night, and then after Friday I won't be home again until like the 19th-20th. Yeaaaaaaah. :D

*finishes packing*
shinydinosaur: (dollhouse: brilliant idea)
First off, my Farmer's Market table was a rather good success this morning! I stood at my area for five hours and sold two things (and fixing a bracelet that's good-as-sold), but hey, $20 is $20. I was the only table there with knits and jewelry; everyone else was food or garden-related. I had many many complements, one of my favorites being that I'm a "young knitter", and several great ideas relayed to me in order to adapt what they thought was already something great into something even better.

OH LOOK. MY STORE. PIMPAGE. AND LOADS NEW JEWELRY.

Even if you fun f-listers do nothing but comment as to what stuff you like/dislike, that would make me happy. Things not listed yet: Firefly-inspired mp3/phone/anything carrier, same item but in camouflage, (I had another different one but I soooold it~) epic earrings I made of a gorgeous necklace that broke (and some scarf stuff that you can see in that second linked pic like the 8ft "electric snake" scarf that I adore).

And it seems like most of my April is totally packed with crazy and fun things!

April 3-8: making alpaca-related things; visiting recruiter; making TJ watch either more Doctor Who or Chess in Concert; probably streaking some temporary pink in my hair; prepping for NYC (and technically the other trip as well); getting my babysitting money I've waited for for like a month to help with both.
April 9: Alpaca Fiesta Festival! Sell awesome knitted things. Finish packing.
April 10-11: Head up to NYC on bus - see Born Yesterday at the very least, I HAVE to go eat at the Life Cafe this time, and especially chill/geek out with/glomp [livejournal.com profile] harbek and meet other awesome people I am told. :DDDD
April 14ish: Go home and wash like everything I just brought home.
April 15: Go see friend's play, spend night at boyfriend's house.
April 16-19: Get up EARLY, 6+ hr roadtrip to bf's future college and current place of my best friend <33; more roadtripping to Tennessee, then home again.
April 20-21: Get home, sleep for a month. /end
April 23: WAKE UP LONG ENOUGH TO WATCH DOCTOR WHO AND FREAK OUT.

TJ suggested to me that we bring Les Mis and "you can finally introduce me to Chess!" on our roadtrip, lawl.

Things I *will* be bringing:
- Doctor Who audios (specifically with Lucie, and hunt down the ones with the Word Lord)
- Looots of music. Probably burning CDs for the second trip to save iPod battery.
- Knitting to do (if I'm not sick of it by then, hah): RENT scarf, ipod cases, whatever.
- Camera! Journal! Ways to be creative and express my thoughts!
- Probably my external harddrive for the second trip at least, for chilling out and catching the bf up on Doctor Who (or trying to) during some downtime. Plan is to go through the specials (minus Planet of the Dead, boring) and charge through the epic of season five.
shinydinosaur: (doctor who: explosion)
If you're on my f-list and you're not a Doctor Who/Fifth Doctor/Peter Davison fan, feel free to jump over this, but it's full of links and fun things. :D

So since a certain unnamed friend was spamming me clips and gifs and pics like all day, here's what I've dug up since while fighting off my cold - it's gotten better! I think it must be all of these links (and maybe a bit of the meds). I've also now seen every pic/gif/vid/article linked on the tumblr fuckyeahpeterdavison. \o/

THE SPAM OF WIN. )

Now I don't know what I'll do tomorrow if I still feel bad, cause browsing that tumblr was quite cheering but it's finished now. I attempted some knitting today, but had to put it down after a while. Started on a really open lacy thin scarf, sorta light pink/yellow/white, and working on a nice headband in a light blue/green color, which is coming along nicely.

And here's that leaf I made yesterday. Going to probably turn this into some kind of pin at some point, along with Five's celery, but now that I know how to make it properly, I'm going to attempt teeny ones in a lighter green and see how well they hold up for earrings when I put wiring in them.

This whole week there's been a Whedonland mafia game that just ended today. It was rather epic and I was happy to be an assassin. Fun screenshots from the last two nights of chat will show up on this post later.

Also. [livejournal.com profile] harbek and [livejournal.com profile] kasiopeia. I read The Hunger Games. The first one. OMFG. Dystopian futures are one of the things I love - reaaaally love - when done well, and holy crap, that's done so well. One of the best books I've ever read in a really really long time. To the point where I was so absorbed I could visualize it really well in my mind, and couldn't hear people calling for me about five feet away. (The last time that happened, I think, I was reading the last two Harry Potter books, and even then I was drifting in-and-out of Deathly Hallows even though I read it for a straight 5 1/2 hours.) I nearly cried at least once (was at someone's house so it would be odd to randomly cry, or I would've), and got incredibly upset a few other times. Then I found out there's gonna be a movie released March 2012. They're filming in Georgia from May-September 2011 and casting for extras as well as leads. I'm SO submitting my acting resume (what little there is of it) when I get the chance to talk to my parents so they're aware of it. The least I can do is try, and if National Guard interferes, so be it, but even as an extra in one scene I'd kill for the chance. Plus it's something cool on my resume if I do get it!

I waited at least a week to get this book from the library, as I had to get in the queue for it when it was available, and then I couldn't stop reading it the whole day I had it. Checked not only my library, but the libraries in the three closest cities to me. (even if it means I have to apply for their limited (free) library card.) They have at least 25 copies between all of them of book two. Guess how many were available? NONE. ASDFGHJKL. And I'm like third in the queue for my area. Book three, of course, there's several free. Go figure. I've been freaking out periodically for the last three days straight because it ends SO well but just teases you with a cliffhanger. I know when I have the money, I'm buying all three.

We bring you back to our scheduled LJ post (my little weekend of pure awesome):
Alpacas, silly sci-fi, and knitting pics await! )
shinydinosaur: (angel: puppet)
Was gonna update last night before all hell broke loose - the start of a migraine that lasted from 11pm to 6pm the next day. I slept from 5-11am and it was still there.

So anyways. I've been busy the last two weeks, both on and off-line.

- introduced my oldest friend to the Fifth Doctor (and Adric) via sleepover involving marathons of Castrovalva and Four to Doomsday. She loved them and we snarked our way through. Also introduced her to Eight with the TV Movie (she loves him now too) and a gift of a CD of most of S1 EDAs. In-between that we marathoned the last eight Dollhouse episodes of S1 that she hadn't seen yet. So that's a grand total of 13 hours of awesome. We were up until 5-6am before we crashed and finished the last three hours after dinner.

- finished babysitting for my coworker as she's moved to SC. Said goodbye to her and her little boy, and I'll miss them both. She said she considered me family, which means a lot. I watched him learn how to walk over the course of a few months, and he mimics me saying "all gone" when I finish giving him meals and ushering him out of the kitchen - I  mean, that'll stay with me forever. <3

- decided to finally jump into a Mafia game at [livejournal.com profile] whedonland which I'm incredibly excited about. It starts tomorrow. I'm Wash, and the cast list has both [livejournal.com profile] lias9  and [livejournal.com profile] sourpony , so that's exciting. :D

- finally watched Caves of Androzani all the way through with [livejournal.com profile] harbek and [livejournal.com profile] spoofmaster late at night and had a great time. Despite it being Fivey's last serial and all. He really is badass, even when in pain/dying. I then made this to commemorate it.

- got through the Big Finish Doctor Who EDA 2x06 (I think), Grand Theft Cosmos and I'm really loving Lucie being Eight's companion. A LOT. So with quite a bit of encouragement, I app'd her for RP at [livejournal.com profile] brb_gallifrey as [livejournal.com profile] ohgodcrocodiles . It's a bit nervewracking and exciting all in one, especially since she's my first Doctor Who character (and non-Whedon character) to play - and my first relaxed-yet-structured RP comm, if it works out.
(I'm usually Wash - [livejournal.com profile] shinydinosaurs and I've also played Giles - [livejournal.com profile] ripperthegreat in mafias and silly cracky things.)

- THIS over at SWS with Wash. It's so adorable!
- And THIS at SWS with Giles. LOOOOVE.

I have been updating my two TV-related posts as needed. I'm doing really well on the 500 episodes a year so far (It's only mid-March and I'm on #109 now) as well as the what I watch post. I've already started/finished all of IT Crowd this year alone (although I hear rumors of a series 5) as well as The Cape (except the unaired episode), and Secret Diary of a Call Girl will be ending in a week.

That's an interesting question with a million answers.
I think of a true friend, and I can only describe it with the thought of my best/closest friend in the whole world.. she's caring and supportive and even though we didn't have much in common at first, she was willing to try out things I liked doing, and vice versa. She's always there to lend a hand or a shoulder when needed, and she looks out for me. We stick up for each other, and during school we always kept each other accountable, and she was the first person I wanted to go to to talk about anything.

And then I realize that this description, or the overwhelming majority of it, fits several other of my close friends, and I include a good number of my online/long-distance friends in this as well. I know so many people who would say that they couldn't count as true friends, but I know they're wrong. Those friends most certainly count, and they are compassionate, fun-loving, encouraging, and go above and beyond what I would normally just term 'online' or 'fandom friends'. The fandoms connect us, certainly, but then we find we have much more in common and it's a wonderful thing. I've had the wonderful fortune to meet several in person, and we're incredibly good friends both online and off, regardless of age differences and despite what some people may think, because it's definitely not weird.

Ending any friendship is hard, and I'm glad to say I've never had to end any on my part, but I think true friends are ones you'll always have, because even though probably 99% of people on my f-list may disagree with my opinions on religion and politics and any other huge issue, we either agree to disagree, or at times I've stated my views and we've had interesting and even enjoyable debates and conversations. We don't let it get in between us, or at least not long enough to do damage. I think those big-button issues would be the most likely reason behind ending a friendship though.
