I'M BAACK~

My computer cord finally died on me so I had to wait like 10 days for the replacement to be mailed to me. SO SLOW GAH. And it finally arrived this afternoon. x___x

What have I been doing in the meantime?

1. Finished my finals for first semester - and for the record, I got 2 Bs and 3 As. I'm freaking excited! My parents don't even know since I first saw my grades yesterday at like 11pm at a party.

2. Made tons and tons of things, kinda. Here's a TARDIS and lots and lots of Pokemon: Pikachu, Shuckle, Mew, Charmander, Squirtle, Clefable, Ponyta, Lugia, Articuno, and all four original Pokeballs. With plans of waaaay more on the way, it's just what I've done according to the colors I have, and when I had them. Lots of blues and reds and yellows, not so much greens or pinks. Hence lack of Bulbasaur. (Which is now a total of 71 different ones, so I could probably make Six's coat if I didn't mind the eystrain.)

3. Set up my Etsy store again. Only has three items right now, but this is my fave one and apparently the internets agrees. It's so lovely and I had fun putting it together and experimenting.

4. Dyed my hair red today. It was brown with reddish tint to it (not in that pic much) but it grew out like whoa, so now I'm more of a red/auburn!
Spent like four hours today doing it (and by that I mean my little eleven year old sister put gloves on and did the whole process herself which was about three hours worth of work - she did it last time too and it was fantastic, and this time she cut my split ends off for me and it looks nice)

5. Watched movies + caught up on House, Ringer, and much more QI. So for movies, I've seen Winter's Bone, which was brilliant and made me way more excited for Jennifer Lawrence in Hunger Games, and Gattaca which is now my #1 fave hardcore science fiction movie ever. I didn't expect to cry at the end so all of a sudden tears was whoa. And then I watched the extras on the DVD and the 'epilogue' that they cut out at the last second just took my breath away and sent chills down my spine at the end. I need a version where it's left in. Omg. Could probably write a whole post on how fantastic Gattaca was in every sense. It's from 1997 and I swear it was written for 2010, it's so, so relevant and I'd love to see it be in curriculum for genetics classes if it's not already.

6. Went to the most amazing Christmas party that a friend hosted. I was with old and new friends for 12 straight hours and made so many more inside jokes and moments that we'll never forget. Had tons of homemade foods and desserts, watched Muppets Christmas Carol, played a rather action-packed game of Spoons (it isn't fun until someone gets hurt) and lots of just wonderful socializing. Met my evil twin who is crazy awesome. She's an English major, we spoke with British accents for an hour or two. she looks very much like me down to the hair and glasses, ships the same alt!ships for Harry Potter fandom, and even recognized my cross-stitched TARDIS which surprised me. :D

7. Finally achieved my goal of getting one million NP on Neopets. Yeah, you heard me right. The games are addicting and free, and I have friends who've stayed on as long as I have (seven years now) so it's nice to reconnect. Totally used other computers to do it of course, for maybe an hour or two a day, but it's nice and relaxing and I've always wanted a million points in their game currency and now I have it. \o/

8. I also saw a very dear friend of mine in a great production of Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, and had about five other mutual friends come too. He was the most hilarious Malvolio ever and I had to keep covering my mouth because I couldn't keep a straight face. Every time I turned around to hide my laughter, at least one of my friends had tears running down her face or had their heads hidden. It was great. :D

Good news: This is finals week for college so my mind's a bit scattered but after that, I've got lots of free time on my hands and I've been fighting stress by stitching a lot. And the complements from college people are really motivational.
I also have an 89 in my test average for math which is amazing. No idea what my total grade so far is but shouldn't be lower than an 80.

Bad news: I frikkin got fired from my job after all that hard work busting my ass running that studio - and the district manager never asked for my side on anything, just sent a message to the temp manager at my studio who'd been there a few weeks and told her to let me go. :| :| :|
So woo, no stable income and next semester is creeping up on me in exactly a month. Also I totally just sprained the top of my foot and walking on it is painful as hell. I'll get a bandage wrap for it tomorrow and then time to hunt for the crutches if it's like this Wednesday.

Other good news: I'm probably going to start making really awesome things with my geeky stitchery and selling it on like Etsy and local markets and stuff. Anything from magnets to pendants to phone charms or maybe even keychains - I have a feeling that a good deal of this will be commissioned because I can do literally anything with the finished piece and I can make it exactly how you want it. So if there's something you have in mind, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

As far as actual pricing, I have some guidelines in mind but I haven't bought any of the jewelry/charm/magnet/felt stuff which will probably need to be factored in. Once I know how much that will run me, I'll be able to list fair prices and all the other logistics.

And now, I bring you the awesome.

Mew, Shuckle, Pikachu, and Lugia

Lugia is what I'd consider a large sprite for obvious reasons. Took three hours to make, everyone else came in around two hours.

Pokeballs, Great Ball, Ultra Ball, and a Cascade Badge.

Each one of these took an hour to make - the Pokeballs would be excellent necklaces, magnets, or phone charms, for example. I also plan on making the Master Ball to complete the original pokeball set and then get the colors to make all the original badges.

surprise!non-Pokemon geekery: Rupees (Legend of Zelda)

The picture quality here is the best I could do but I assure you they are vibrantly colored and look fantastic in person. I can do SO much with these (they'll be individual pieces) so it's gonna be fun to experiment. Three hours total to stitch.

I also have a really cool Zelda-inspired project I'm working on for [livejournal.com profile] harbek and [livejournal.com profile] gildedmuse and myself that the former gave me some great suggestions for during a four hour chat to make it even more awesome, and when it's properly set up I'll start posting pictures. Again, very customizable.

AND WHY STOP HERE? There's only eighty bajillion different video games I can work with, more than a few fandoms that lend themselves to sprite-friendly things (Fezzes! Mario! TARDIS!) and I've already gotten a request from a friend to make a phone charm of a character from Adventure Time. Hah. :P

Two posts in the space of 30 minutes after not posting for two weeks? I'm gonna asplode.

Except they need proper backing and stuff to not fray from use, and I'm not sure how to do that and I don't have time. I made all of these about.. four months ago? Maybe five? and talked about them on LJ but never posted pics anywhere. Thinking about making some for Christmas gifts, although depending on who it's for, tone down the geeky or make like, idk, kittens or something. XDDD

My favorite, I think - and it's too cute! :D

My second favorite - totally beautiful but took forever to make.

I adooore this -and I can maybe even tweak it, add color or something else.

Definitely a challenge to make - but it made me laugh every time. Semi-obscure (depending on what group of fellow geeks I'm around) musical reference.

WIP - I could do so much with this if I had the time/creativity.

SUGGESTIONS? COMMENTS? TOO MUCH GEEK? TOO LITTLE GEEK? LET ME KNOW!

Cross-posting to [livejournal.com profile] crafty_tardis.

First off, I have a feeling this was long-awaited, so huge apologies. In the midst of RL getting rather complicated lately, my computer has gone through two personal crises (crisises?) and managed to dump all of my data down the digital toilet. Thank God for the likes of TinyPic and Photobucket.

Disclaimer reminder: I ask that my created letters, like the originals, not be used for any sort of profit. I'm not making any money off of them either. It's a labor of geeky, awesome, fandom love. <3

Without further ado:

Pics behind the cut )

...it appears that among other things, my computer ate the graph version of K, although it shouldn't be too tricky to make it with this picture - but I can remake the graph - as well as my L, where the only remaining copies besides the actual (as-of-yet incomplete) stitched piece are some print-outs. Thankfully, I can remake that one without too much difficulty.

I love how with some of these pictures, I clearly have the colors in mind, and then when it gets to actually making it, I'm like SCREW IT and I use a different color after all.

So this wasn't as spectacular an update as I had hoped, but I'm getting there. I've made charts for S, T, U, and W as well, in case anyone was wondering. I'm just waiting to post them in order. Suggestions are loved! I've got most of them figured out, it's just a matter of making a chart.

So I've managed to procure some internets on my dad's computer, slow and virusy as they may be. And as I'm behind on my personal schedule to start posting pics of my secret project, I'll attempt to do a grouping now.

The only people I know of who knew of this project were [livejournal.com profile] harbek, [livejournal.com profile] chibichimera, [livejournal.com profile] platoapproved, and probably another person or two whose username I can't think off off the top of my head, and even fewer who have seen said project, and none who have seen 100% of it. SO.

Cut for dramatic effect... )

If you're on my f-list and you're not a Doctor Who/Fifth Doctor/Peter Davison fan, feel free to jump over this, but it's full of links and fun things. :D

So since a certain unnamed friend was spamming me clips and gifs and pics like all day, here's what I've dug up since while fighting off my cold - it's gotten better! I think it must be all of these links (and maybe a bit of the meds). I've also now seen every pic/gif/vid/article linked on the tumblr fuckyeahpeterdavison. \o/

THE SPAM OF WIN. )

Now I don't know what I'll do tomorrow if I still feel bad, cause browsing that tumblr was quite cheering but it's finished now. I attempted some knitting today, but had to put it down after a while. Started on a really open lacy thin scarf, sorta light pink/yellow/white, and working on a nice headband in a light blue/green color, which is coming along nicely.

And here's that leaf I made yesterday. Going to probably turn this into some kind of pin at some point, along with Five's celery, but now that I know how to make it properly, I'm going to attempt teeny ones in a lighter green and see how well they hold up for earrings when I put wiring in them.

This whole week there's been a Whedonland mafia game that just ended today. It was rather epic and I was happy to be an assassin. Fun screenshots from the last two nights of chat will show up on this post later.

Also. [livejournal.com profile] harbek and [livejournal.com profile] kasiopeia. I read The Hunger Games. The first one. OMFG. Dystopian futures are one of the things I love - reaaaally love - when done well, and holy crap, that's done so well. One of the best books I've ever read in a really really long time. To the point where I was so absorbed I could visualize it really well in my mind, and couldn't hear people calling for me about five feet away. (The last time that happened, I think, I was reading the last two Harry Potter books, and even then I was drifting in-and-out of Deathly Hallows even though I read it for a straight 5 1/2 hours.) I nearly cried at least once (was at someone's house so it would be odd to randomly cry, or I would've), and got incredibly upset a few other times. Then I found out there's gonna be a movie released March 2012. They're filming in Georgia from May-September 2011 and casting for extras as well as leads. I'm SO submitting my acting resume (what little there is of it) when I get the chance to talk to my parents so they're aware of it. The least I can do is try, and if National Guard interferes, so be it, but even as an extra in one scene I'd kill for the chance. Plus it's something cool on my resume if I do get it!

I waited at least a week to get this book from the library, as I had to get in the queue for it when it was available, and then I couldn't stop reading it the whole day I had it. Checked not only my library, but the libraries in the three closest cities to me. (even if it means I have to apply for their limited (free) library card.) They have at least 25 copies between all of them of book two. Guess how many were available? NONE. ASDFGHJKL. And I'm like third in the queue for my area. Book three, of course, there's several free. Go figure. I've been freaking out periodically for the last three days straight because it ends SO well but just teases you with a cliffhanger. I know when I have the money, I'm buying all three.

We bring you back to our scheduled LJ post (my little weekend of pure awesome):
Alpacas, silly sci-fi, and knitting pics await! )

Not that it's horrible, more that it's a terror to make because it takes so much time, the way I did it.
Today alone, I worked on it for about three hours during the afternoon and then from 9pm to... now. So today alone I spent almost 10 hours (granted, sewing it shut took ages) and I was 98% done before today. I must have worked on this at least 25-30 hours. But SO WORTH IT.

I also got the scarf done before I see my boyfriend tomorrow after babysitting. Mission accomplished!

Okay, so. Fibonacci scarf. It's a math thing, the pattern.

What it looked like when I just got it off the needles.

Final product.

The pattern also does cool things when you turn the scarf like this:

PS if i need to LJ cut this for pics just someone tell me because i'm like so tired i'm dead right now and am going to bed soon so i can get up in like three hours. kthx.

In other news: I'm basically going to be internet dead for the rest of the week, so I think I can check my f-list once before I sleep at night, or maybe twice depending on the day but that's about it for me. Not too much activity. I'm babysitting 60 hours in 8 days this week. Already did 8 hours yesterday. Then it goes something like 8, 8, 10, 8, 10, 8. for the next seven days. no tv, no internet, but I do have a 1 year old to care for and a DVD player and lots of dvds that I think I've seen so many times I could quote them all. gonna bring new ones this week. am i going to die? maybe.

Omfg I am so hungry it's not even funny.

I should have started with: I went to the gym! For like, around two hours. Holy cow. I'm exhausted and my legs are sore and so are my arms and mostly my legs cause I finished with a 6 1/2 minute fast run (or however long playing 'Out Tonight' 2x is - it's my fave running song). But wow it was crazy. I probably exercised like every muscle in my body. But I feel so accomplished.

AND HUNGRY. Omg. I nommed a chicken cesar salad and am working on a big bottle of water now, and some almonds, but omg it works up an appetite. Like... this hungry.

I will now proceed to give you my favorite fandom moments involving food. Spoilers abound.

Picspam of yum! )

Other moments:
- Adric doing nothing but eating 90% of the time in 'Black Orchid'
- Adelle and her alchohol
- RENT: the Life Cafe - WINE AND BEER!

Last but not least: my Cookies of Rassilon, and my assorted DW cookies, made for a Who party. They were delicious!

OKAY SO. HERE'S WHERE IT GETS INTERESTING. I NEED YOU GUYS' HELP.

I'm just gonna go all out and post my pictures of crafts that I made for the purpose of selling (because I'm SO keeping my RENT scarf although I might be persuaded to make more, and there's another two scarves I can't be made to part with for anything) and you guys tell me what you think of them.

Constructive criticism is loved although I'd be happy even if you just said you liked something.

So, yeah. Thoughts? ^^;

A Hole In The World
- a 68-screencap picspam

Fred is my favorite female character from Angel (Amy Acker is brilliant as Fred and Illyria) Fred was always funny, full of life, and absolutely brilliant. Her death hit hard but it brought forth so much more during the final season through Illyria, whose subsequent interactions with Angel and the gang (notably Wesley and Spike) were fascinating to watch.

Picspam here )

Spike: There's a hole in the world. Feels like we ought to have known.

Fred: Would you have loved me?
Wesley: I've loved you since I've known you. No, that's not-I think maybe even before.

Fred: Cavemen win. Of course the cavemen win.

Fred: My boys. I walk with heroes. Think about that.
Wesley: You are one.
Fred: Superhero. And this is my power: to not let them take me. Not me.

Fred: Why can't I stay?
