I didn't make it to my ridiculous goal of 500 new episodes of television in 2011, but I darn near got close with an official count of 410. (It would probably be more like 425 due to numerous Colbert Report episodes I never counted but hey.)

This list includes: click to see my most-watched shows of 2011 + stats )

Anything else I should be doing stats for?
Total hours of television watched, I'm kinda intimidated by the idea of summing that up..

Could Be Anything, Therefore Nothing.: How to Care for Your Sherlock Fan as Reichenbach Draws Nigh

1. DON’T be the first to mention “The Reichenbach Fall.” After reading this post, you may be tempted to gauge your fan’s sanity. “How are you feeling about Sunday?” you may be tempted to ask. But your fan is still on a “The Hounds of Baskerville” high, soaring through life on cheekbones and maybe!Mystrade and I-don’t-have-friends-I-only-have-one. The denial will end soon enough.

2. DO offer to watch “The Reichenbach Fall” with your fan. No one should have to go through that trauma alone. Don’t be offended if your fan refuses the offer, though. No one should have to sob like a baby in public.

3. DON’T check up on your fan too early after the episode. Your fan will, as mentioned before, be crying like a baby. Allow a decent interval of mourning. It’s only appropriate. Use the time to read reviews of the episode so you know whether to be prepared for the worst.

4. DO check up on your fan at some point after the episode. Call on Monday. Call on Tuesday. Go to their house on Wednesday and drag them bodily into the sunshine. Do whatever is necessary to ensure their well-being because they will probably forget.

5. DON’T tell your fan “It’s only a TV show.” You are attempting to offer comfort. Instead your fan will shout “You’re right! It will never be reality - REALITY IS WORTHLESS” and shut themselves in their room with ice cream, internet and a stack of DVDs and never leave.

Guys, this is legit printed out and tacked onto my bedroom door already. I plan on sending a few to friends and friend-fans too. It's hilar but OH-SO-TRUUUUE WHYYYY

Ew no take it away.

Your 'new and improved' layout is crap, I can't even post a comment without it taking a billion seconds and acting like it's frozen in hell, the new 'easier' way of choosing a user icon makes me shudder and want to stick with just the default for the rest of my life.

I want my subject lines back. You kept the old ones by making them bigger bolded font at the beginning of old comments but I WANT IT BACK. The new colors are bright and annoying and I'm sure any sort of prolonged exposure to it will give me a nightmare of a headache trying to read long comment threads WHICH I CAN'T EVEN SEE RIGHT. It's like OH FLOATY BUBBLES SO PRETTY AND NEW but the old way worked and I was happy with it and I liked it and maybe it didn't look all 2011 but it was very functional and it's an older website and I loved that it reflected that while still being my favorite place to go online for socializing. Sometimes simple is better.

I seriously have never gone up in arms about ANY. SINGLE. CHANGE. you have ever implemented but this is pissing me off so much that I can't just sit back and ignore it this time. It's like you WANT us to leave so you can shut down the site or your leader is the biggest troll on earth or SOMETHING. If this was an April Fools joke, then it would be an epic one because shit is hitting the fan so hard. Your update comments have already reached like 27-28 pages as I sit here and they are all negative.

IF IT'S NOT BROKE DON'T BREAK IT.

TL;DR: DO. NOT. WANT.

And now I'm going to bed after watching the trailer for The Hobbit one last time because it is good and right and beautiful and knows how to make older things work in the current year without making the fanbase rage like hell.

Originally posted by [livejournal.com profile] moerlin at As of tomorrow, no more subject lines in comments on LJ
I was gonna update this with much happier stuff, but for the past week I've just been so enraged with LJ's asshattery that I've had it to here.

In case you didn't know, on 12/12 they first announced sneakily on the Russian journal of LJ's design guy that with new changes being implemented tomorrow, there will be no more subject lines in comments and that this change was "non-negotiable" (good round-up and translation here). I'm sure you all realize that this will basically make fandom and RP communities unusable. LJ's staff, however, doesn't give a shit. At least 18 pages of 100% negative feedback didn't sway them.

They've backpedaled some and will make keeping comment subject lines optional in some S2 styles, but the default (that 99% of communities are running right now) will decidedly be subject-less! Not to mention that their new and frankly, fucking ugly design will take forever to load and make the site a pain to use on mobile browsers.

And oh, it looks like they might be taking away the drop-down menu to select icons as well, so you'll have to load all your icons as pictures to select them. Lovely. (I will beta-test tonight to see if this is actually true.)

Really, I don't know why I'm surprised. LJ is always fucking with the parts of the site that actually work and breaking them, so this is just another instance of that. Because seriously, who are subject lines hurting by just being there? (And no, it can't be a matter of server strain, considering the new "graphic" interface will definitely be using up more resources - so much fun when there's DDoS attacks!)
As far as I know, they've never once listened to their customers, so those thousands of comments already posted probably won't do shit. I've left a message expressing my concerns about the new comment pages here anyway; so if you want to do that too, go for it! If anything, it helps with the rage. ;)

FYI: Dreamwidth is feeling Christmasy has reacted to LJ's bullshit and has open account creation (no invite codes needed) for the rest of the week. Might be a good idea to get your back-up or new home, whatever the case may be, up and running now.

SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM SPAM...

So I got an email a while ago, was meaning to share it purely for the lulz. It was worded differently and I couldn't resist the urge to reply back. I'm horrible. >:D

Also note this email had like five lines of space between every paragraph, so I'm gonna cut that out to save you all the f-list spamming, funnily enough.

AHEM.

Dear friend, cut to save space )

Yeah, so far no reply, but it made me laugh. I'll keep you posted.

It crashed. Totally and utterly crashed. Days after I put everything on it. Thankfully, due to a friend and Facebook and TinyPic and my Photobucket account from back like 2005, about... 98% of my photos will be successfully retrieved. The 2% remaining consists of pictures I downloaded from other places online anyway, or personal pictures that I hadn't got around to uploading. I am in the process of downloading 8,000 right now from Facebook alone. Not even kidding.

My documents - apart from chat logs which I'm hoping to eventually get back / if anyone who chats with me saves their chats too, that'd be awesome, and some school documents - the most important of which have probably been emailed at least half a dozen times - are gone as well, but they don't hurt me as badly, I think.

Right now, the most devastating loss is my video collection. I have all my audios, but my bootlegs are gone - I mean, I'm sure I can eventually restore my collection, since maybe 1/4th of it has been uploaded online, I've burned DVDs of some, and I'll be contacting people I've traded to in the past as well, but that's a LOT of video. I just updated my new trading site too, so I know exactly what I need to get back. It would be easier to mark what I actually DO still have. @_@ shinydinosaur.weebly.com

I also had all of Buffy/Angel/Dollhouse/Doctor Who/Torchwood, which may take an extremely long time to get back, but is by far one of the easier things to do. Some of the really old things may be harder to find, such as the original Taking Over The Asylum, for example (not the DVD release where they switched out all the original songs for new ones since they didn't bother to get copyrights back in the 80s for it).

All my own videos are mostly gone, sadly, but my drama class films are on various DVDs so I can always re-burn them or try and rip them off. And who knows what else is gone, but what can you do. Definitely not buying that brand of hard drive again, as it's become a 2 TB paperweight. A really expensive paperweight.

So. Probably cross-posting to all the musical trading communities that I'm on indefinite hiatus until I can rebuild my collection of videos. This sucks.

This is way too late in coming, and I may not be great at making fanfic or art or whatever but I really wanted to remember her in my own little way.

Sarah Jane Smith was my first proper Classic Who companion. I met her as I watched her reacting (as I did) to the newly regenerated Fourth Doctor in a rerun of Robot on PBS. Of course, at the time I had no initial idea she'd been with the Third Doctor as well. Her reactions to this new Doctor were much the same as my own to Ten changing (I'd seen some of Nine at this point); he was this new, strange being, but still very much the same person (I could see where the manic energy came from, while Sarah Jane of course knew of Three's personality.)

I loved her character in School Reunion even though I didn't know a lot about her. Thanks to PBS, I saw her in at least the first four or five serials with Four, and she was pretty awesome. I had started my 'studies', if you will, of Classic Who once I got into the show properly, and read up on everyone and everything I could find. I was able to understand Ten's emotions so much better the second time around.

Sarah Jane Smith is so much more of a character than Rose or Martha or even Donna will ever be. Even knowing initially very little about her other than being a "former companion", she had so much of a richer character and made Rose seem flat and boring in comparison. It says something that she can more than just hold her own in a spin-off centered around her, while I probably wouldn't even bother with a show formed around nearly any other companion. Elisabeth Sladen wasn't just acting out Sarah Jane; she was Sarah Jane.

I'm still very upset although now that it's been a few days I'm able to step back and remember all the wonderful moments Lis Sladen gave us as Sarah Jane, rather than what we won't have anymore.

Rest in peace, Elisabeth Sladen. I hope Sarah Jane and the Brigadier and Harry are having some wonderful adventures together again.

Like I said before, I fail at artwork or fanfic, but these are some of the things I've come across that were absolutely gorgeous and stood out to me the most, and I want to share. There's already so many posts about this that a lot of these things are easy to get lost in the shuffle.

Fanfic:
Saying Goodbye
A Tear, Sarah Jane

Beautiful picture. May make it my background for a while, even.
Oh, K-9. ;__;

Spoilers, sweeties. You have been warned. )

Too many things to remember all at once on the first go. And I wasn't taking notes like the Doctor was.

Mostly a list for me to refer back to (I like ticky boxes!) but also you guys can poke me and prod me and make sure I'm not on here until I've accomplished my goals for the day. So yeah.

Major priority: have at least 15-20 puppets done by the morning of Saturday, April 9 (the due date). 'Cause the more I make, the more I have to sell!
Ideally I'd like to see 25, meaning I'd need to complete five per day (aka something like ~ 8-10 hours of work per day - which I really don't see happening). x_X I have three completely done now, two bodies done minus parts, and one body ready to be assembled. So basically by tomorrow I'll have six done. YES I AM A BODY FACTORY WHY DO YOU ASK.

I think I could easily do three a day, though, if I'm working on them all throughout the day and not just in one clump that would make me want to scream.

April 5 - take mom and grandpa on errands (yay driving, I actually enjoy it), go see friend and streak my hair pink with her (yes you heard me right, pink) and be awesome in general, finish the 3 puppets, make at least 3 more puppets (and listen to Lucie audios!)

April 6 - make sure I do my pimpage for [livejournal.com profile] whedonland, start on [livejournal.com profile] brb_gallifrey anniversary shenanigans, continue w/puppets and audios. Also go get bus tickets reserved. (They're super chill about everything, whee ghetto bus, I think the bus was like maybe 3/4 filled last time? Plus we had people just sort of showing up and paying and getting on that night.)

April 7 - continue on brb_g sekkrit stuffs, puppets, editing and finishing list of things to pack for NYC (and other roadtrip I should hopefully be going on a day after I get back)

April 8 - PUPPETS LIKE WHOA HI THERE. Get as many as completed as possible and at least make a bunch of bodies to work on at the festival (adding parts doesn't take as long)

April 9 - Alpaca festival! Working there, hopefully selling some knitted things (sadly, not taking my jewelry with me) and the puppets should do really well, and then crashing when I get home. And then starting on packing.

April 10 - PAAAACK. After all, I'm leaving that night/Monday at 12:30am for NYC! :D

THE REST IS HISTORY. WHICH HASN'T HAPPENED YET. CAUSE I'M COOL LIKE THAT.

...and it hasn't even started. @___@ WHAT. UP.

Ramblerambleramble.

Cut because I'm being nice to my flist late at night )

In the fandom world, Lucie Miller ([livejournal.com profile] ohgodcrocodiles) has settled in nicely at [livejournal.com profile] brb_gallifrey and even met some new friends (and a sort-of adversary) and I'm super super excited. It's fun and addicting and totally keeps me up late at night.

Speaking of which. It's almost 1am and I have to get up at 7. Nnnnngh. @_____@

TL;DR: Don't expect to see me around the internet until like Monday. Except then I'll probably be sleeping or knitting to make up for the lost time on both. xD;

OH YEAH I FORGOT TO MENTION. MADAMA BUTTERFLY WAS EPIC. My first opera, and it's the one that's playing when the Doctor flatlines on the operating table in the TVM. I'm such a dork. And 'cause I promised some people, here's a pic.

Not that it's horrible, more that it's a terror to make because it takes so much time, the way I did it.
Today alone, I worked on it for about three hours during the afternoon and then from 9pm to... now. So today alone I spent almost 10 hours (granted, sewing it shut took ages) and I was 98% done before today. I must have worked on this at least 25-30 hours. But SO WORTH IT.

I also got the scarf done before I see my boyfriend tomorrow after babysitting. Mission accomplished!

Okay, so. Fibonacci scarf. It's a math thing, the pattern.

What it looked like when I just got it off the needles.

Final product.

The pattern also does cool things when you turn the scarf like this:

PS if i need to LJ cut this for pics just someone tell me because i'm like so tired i'm dead right now and am going to bed soon so i can get up in like three hours. kthx.

In other news: I'm basically going to be internet dead for the rest of the week, so I think I can check my f-list once before I sleep at night, or maybe twice depending on the day but that's about it for me. Not too much activity. I'm babysitting 60 hours in 8 days this week. Already did 8 hours yesterday. Then it goes something like 8, 8, 10, 8, 10, 8. for the next seven days. no tv, no internet, but I do have a 1 year old to care for and a DVD player and lots of dvds that I think I've seen so many times I could quote them all. gonna bring new ones this week. am i going to die? maybe.
