Ew no take it away.

Your 'new and improved' layout is crap, I can't even post a comment without it taking a billion seconds and acting like it's frozen in hell, the new 'easier' way of choosing a user icon makes me shudder and want to stick with just the default for the rest of my life.

I want my subject lines back. You kept the old ones by making them bigger bolded font at the beginning of old comments but I WANT IT BACK. The new colors are bright and annoying and I'm sure any sort of prolonged exposure to it will give me a nightmare of a headache trying to read long comment threads WHICH I CAN'T EVEN SEE RIGHT. It's like OH FLOATY BUBBLES SO PRETTY AND NEW but the old way worked and I was happy with it and I liked it and maybe it didn't look all 2011 but it was very functional and it's an older website and I loved that it reflected that while still being my favorite place to go online for socializing. Sometimes simple is better.

I seriously have never gone up in arms about ANY. SINGLE. CHANGE. you have ever implemented but this is pissing me off so much that I can't just sit back and ignore it this time. It's like you WANT us to leave so you can shut down the site or your leader is the biggest troll on earth or SOMETHING. If this was an April Fools joke, then it would be an epic one because shit is hitting the fan so hard. Your update comments have already reached like 27-28 pages as I sit here and they are all negative.

IF IT'S NOT BROKE DON'T BREAK IT.

TL;DR: DO. NOT. WANT.

And now I'm going to bed after watching the trailer for The Hobbit one last time because it is good and right and beautiful and knows how to make older things work in the current year without making the fanbase rage like hell.

Good news: This is finals week for college so my mind's a bit scattered but after that, I've got lots of free time on my hands and I've been fighting stress by stitching a lot. And the complements from college people are really motivational.
I also have an 89 in my test average for math which is amazing. No idea what my total grade so far is but shouldn't be lower than an 80.

Bad news: I frikkin got fired from my job after all that hard work busting my ass running that studio - and the district manager never asked for my side on anything, just sent a message to the temp manager at my studio who'd been there a few weeks and told her to let me go. :| :| :|
So woo, no stable income and next semester is creeping up on me in exactly a month. Also I totally just sprained the top of my foot and walking on it is painful as hell. I'll get a bandage wrap for it tomorrow and then time to hunt for the crutches if it's like this Wednesday.

Other good news: I'm probably going to start making really awesome things with my geeky stitchery and selling it on like Etsy and local markets and stuff. Anything from magnets to pendants to phone charms or maybe even keychains - I have a feeling that a good deal of this will be commissioned because I can do literally anything with the finished piece and I can make it exactly how you want it. So if there's something you have in mind, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

As far as actual pricing, I have some guidelines in mind but I haven't bought any of the jewelry/charm/magnet/felt stuff which will probably need to be factored in. Once I know how much that will run me, I'll be able to list fair prices and all the other logistics.

And now, I bring you the awesome.

Mew, Shuckle, Pikachu, and Lugia

Lugia is what I'd consider a large sprite for obvious reasons. Took three hours to make, everyone else came in around two hours.

Pokeballs, Great Ball, Ultra Ball, and a Cascade Badge.

Each one of these took an hour to make - the Pokeballs would be excellent necklaces, magnets, or phone charms, for example. I also plan on making the Master Ball to complete the original pokeball set and then get the colors to make all the original badges.

surprise!non-Pokemon geekery: Rupees (Legend of Zelda)

The picture quality here is the best I could do but I assure you they are vibrantly colored and look fantastic in person. I can do SO much with these (they'll be individual pieces) so it's gonna be fun to experiment. Three hours total to stitch.

I also have a really cool Zelda-inspired project I'm working on for [livejournal.com profile] harbek and [livejournal.com profile] gildedmuse and myself that the former gave me some great suggestions for during a four hour chat to make it even more awesome, and when it's properly set up I'll start posting pictures. Again, very customizable.

AND WHY STOP HERE? There's only eighty bajillion different video games I can work with, more than a few fandoms that lend themselves to sprite-friendly things (Fezzes! Mario! TARDIS!) and I've already gotten a request from a friend to make a phone charm of a character from Adventure Time. Hah. :P

Of course, I'm still sending out cards in about a month, complete with personalized awesome if you'd like it, so sign up already! :D

First off, Reasoning With Vampires at Tumblr.
I'm an English grammar dork, and I've read all four Twilight books and thought they were a bit rubbish, but great for helping kids realize how not to write sentences/plot/characterization. Reading the entries is such a time-eater but in a great way, and I got through about two pages before some of them made me laugh SO hard. My 11 year old sister and I had tears in our eyes and were gasping for breath by some of them around page eight.
Some particular favorites: here, here, here and here.

Bonus: Part 1 of Alex reads Twilight. I love good snarkage.

Then, there's The Hobbit Blog.
Anyone who's a LotR/Hobbit junkie like me, is in love with the films, and/or interested in every aspect of behind-the-scenes from filming to directing costumes to sets to whathaveyou will love this. The production videos are so wonderful and fun and the last five seconds of video #1 had me tearing up from I'M SO HAPPY THIS IS REAL.

Fun story #1: I got a package today from MTI (Musical Theatre International) and freaked out before realizing that it was because I won a contest and then forgot about it. You had to answer the question about something in this particular book and then if it was right, you're put in a drawing for two versions of the hardback~ special 50th anniversary addition PLUS another hardback illustrated book by the same author. TL;DR: I won. XD
If anyone is interested, it's called The Phantom Tollbooth. I'd heard of it before but now I have no excuse but lack of time to read it. XD

Fun story #2: I was looking at the scifi/fantasy section of the bookstore before work today and passed two women talking about how to define science fiction vs fantasy books. tl;dr I spent about 10 minutes talking with them, one of them was a Joss fan too which was totally awesome. She showed me a book series she was reading with a female werewolf who takes charge and becomes the leader which is cool and more female-empowering and different all that. Not my type of book, really, but yay. :D
I'm currently bewildered as to why there is an authorized sequel to I, Robot. It's just sitting on my desk and I'm wondering if I should actually read it. And I was so tempted to buy another book and had to just stop myself.

brb signing up classes for next semester.
Sociology, US History, Ballroom Dance, Public Speaking, Theatre Appreciation (online, boooo)
shinydinosaur: (too silly)
Because I'm a dork and laughed way too much at this joke, and cause education-related humor is fun. Also because this is more fun to read than a rant on how I have the dumbest class/group/presentation ever. due Friday, and I'm the only one who's done any (read: all) the work.

If you don't get it, read it again. XD

In unrelated news, I need more iconspace, cause this is just getting ridiculous. :P
shinydinosaur: (Wash: no wheel)
my high school was like. a hallway and some trailers. I got lost. more than I care to admit. howwillisurvivecollege. D:

Taped a cheat sheet notecard to the inside of my planner to remind me when and where I have to be for all my morning classes, especially since they require me to get up super early since the first one starts at 8am. For a whole semester. I'm totally used to waking up at 8am. XD

The good thing is that I should know between Friday and like, mid-next week if I passed the CLEP exam for my English class, and if I do I won't have to take it and still get full credit. And refund which means more money for other college-y things. LIKE COFFEE. That totally counts as a college-required item >__> I have been living off cold coffee-like drinks for almost two weeks now whatdoyoumeanitdoesntworklikethat.

And.. yeah. Apart from maybe a fleeting post on how my first ever day of college went, I'm not sure I'll be online for a while...not.. like I have been lately, but shush.

My first *full* week including classes classes looks like this:
Sun: work 2-6
Mon: class 8-1 & 6-7
Tues: work 3-7
Wed: class 8-1 & 4-7
Thurs: work 9am-7pm
Fri: class 8-1
Sat: work 1-7

And... basically repeat that for next week. so fuck yes I'm going back to NY in 3 weeks I need a break too. I could seriously just copy that whole schedule and just change my Tuesday workday to 9-2 and it would be the same. Possibly for the week after that too. And I still have to study and do homework and stuff. That Tues-Wed-Thurs-Fri is going to SUCK. HARD. Especially on my sleeping, there's no way I can deviate and stay up even a little bit later or have any resemblance of a life. So please don't tempt me, I will say yes and regret it later. @___@ (But I'm rocking at work with photography and sales even though our new system is made of suck and we've changed pricing sheets TWICE in as many weeks. hell yeah.)

brb cloning myself so one of me can work and one of me can go to school. then Ceri Alpha can go finish watching Luther and BSG and actually sleep normally again. ...why is it 1:30AM already?! D:
shinydinosaur: (Chess: soviet russia)
I have no idea what I just watched.

Yay, Netflix! Maybe I'm just too tired from how late it was when I finished, but I figure if I understand very little about the plot of the movie by the time the credits roll, either I should go to bed or the filmmakers need to be more concise or something,

It's from like 1991, and it's a really small-budget film, I can tell. it's somewhat slow-paced but generally well-done to suit that style (the cinematography was great and the way certain scenes were shot avoided what would otherwise be a really cheesy or fake-looking moment). David Thewlis is in it with a minor role, but what made me totally sit through it was a yoouuung Paul McGann. With a really pretty voice. And face. :D

Apart from that, nothing really made much sense at first. It's also almost 2am right now. Thanks to IMDb boards I understood a bit more about the interesting mindtrip I just went on. It's definitely creepy but has a two-tone feel to it that I don't even know if it's supposed to reconcile or not. There's this whole thing between seeing/not seeing, imagination vs reality, and his view of the world vs everyone else. It's very bizarre and unsettling and incredibly cerebral, but I think I liked it well enough.

I can understand that it's not listed on TV Tropes but it doesn't even seem to have a Wikipedia page. That's how unknown this thing is.
EDIT: Well, actually it does but it tells you like literally nothing about it other than it's a French-British drama film with PMG listed as the third-main actor in it. Here's the trailer, please excuse the awful voiceover. Paul McGann shows up around 0:19 seconds in with a line, at 0:46 for a second although he's rather..different in that one, and another line at 1:11. <333

I'd definitely watch it at least once if you like mind-trippy, psychological horror, slower-paced, cerebral movies. Other ones that remind me of this as far as pacing and style (just more famous) are The Sixth Sense, The Good Son, Donnie Darko, eXistenZ (only that one's incredibly graphic and gore-fest), and Hitchcock movies.

The next movie I'll probably watch tomorrow night is another recommended to me as psychological thriller. It's called Dark Harbor, with Alan Rickman as a lead character.

It is also 1:50am now so I am surprised at how well i am being coherency stuff. Tho I wrote lots of this like maybe some hours ago and now it's been like 20 hours awake on like 5 hours sleep why am I still awake alive even

My second day of job training was excellent. (I have a badge now you guys. I'm LEGIT.)

My boss gave me instructions on how to use our huge studio camera and gave me like 10 minutes to play around with manual settings to get the feel of it, then set it to default (as far away as it goes as high up as it goes) and timed me on like four different shots, defaulting the camera each time. It's a monster to operate especially as I'm left-handed and so I can't use it like I normally would to take pictures. My time went down from like 36-42 seconds to about 14-20 by the third drill and she was ridiculously impressed with how great the pictures of her were cropped and shot.

Also progressing nicely on my cross-stitching. I estimate about 13 hours have gone into what you see here, although right now it's about 15 hours total and I've got the top of the head filled in. Pleeenty more to goe before I'm any where near done.

(this isthe bit I am writing at almost 2am how did I stay up this late like 22 hrs now i am a zombie)
In other news, Tucker & Dale vs Evil is FINALLY FREAKING FINALLY getting a release date of something like september 26 or 27 or something around then. Totally excited just hope it's in a theatre near me. been waiting like over a year and a half for it or something and it's like the best or most anticipated movie never released XD

And... I am going to bed why haven't I already I feel like I'm gonna just fall asleep right he
