This is way too late in coming, and I may not be great at making fanfic or art or whatever but I really wanted to remember her in my own little way.

Sarah Jane Smith was my first proper Classic Who companion. I met her as I watched her reacting (as I did) to the newly regenerated Fourth Doctor in a rerun of Robot on PBS. Of course, at the time I had no initial idea she'd been with the Third Doctor as well. Her reactions to this new Doctor were much the same as my own to Ten changing (I'd seen some of Nine at this point); he was this new, strange being, but still very much the same person (I could see where the manic energy came from, while Sarah Jane of course knew of Three's personality.)

I loved her character in School Reunion even though I didn't know a lot about her. Thanks to PBS, I saw her in at least the first four or five serials with Four, and she was pretty awesome. I had started my 'studies', if you will, of Classic Who once I got into the show properly, and read up on everyone and everything I could find. I was able to understand Ten's emotions so much better the second time around.

Sarah Jane Smith is so much more of a character than Rose or Martha or even Donna will ever be. Even knowing initially very little about her other than being a "former companion", she had so much of a richer character and made Rose seem flat and boring in comparison. It says something that she can more than just hold her own in a spin-off centered around her, while I probably wouldn't even bother with a show formed around nearly any other companion. Elisabeth Sladen wasn't just acting out Sarah Jane; she was Sarah Jane.

I'm still very upset although now that it's been a few days I'm able to step back and remember all the wonderful moments Lis Sladen gave us as Sarah Jane, rather than what we won't have anymore.

Rest in peace, Elisabeth Sladen. I hope Sarah Jane and the Brigadier and Harry are having some wonderful adventures together again.

Like I said before, I fail at artwork or fanfic, but these are some of the things I've come across that were absolutely gorgeous and stood out to me the most, and I want to share. There's already so many posts about this that a lot of these things are easy to get lost in the shuffle.

Fanfic:
Saying Goodbye
A Tear, Sarah Jane

Pictures:
Beautiful picture. May make it my background for a while, even.
Oh, K-9. ;__;

IDEK but all I can think of is:

HOW DO YOU MEASURE, MEASURE A YEAR
IN DAYLIGHT, IN SUNSETS, IN MIDNIGHTS, IN CUPS OF COFFEE;
IN INCHES, IN MILES, IN LAUGHTER, IN STRIFE;
IN FIVE HUNDRED TWENTY FIVE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED MINUTES
HOW DO YOU MEASURE A YEAR IN THE LIFE

So first off, Mafia. I'm gonna make an awesome post when it's *officially* over, dedicated to the best round yet of Whedonland mafia, with some of the weirdest stuff I've ever seen - or instigated. But I felt like I had to share my awesome gorgeous banner that [livejournal.com profile] sucksucksmile made for me and our teammates. Click to see the rest, they're adorbs.

Next up, knitting.
I'm working on a TARDIS dishcloth right now, and if it goes well I've already been asked to make a scarf with that pattern on the ends for [livejournal.com profile] harbek. <333

I'm also making slight progress on the Etsy front, I've taken some good pictures and now it's a matter of pricing + shipping stuff. I think basic scarves are around $15-20ish depending on length, they take a long time to do, and anything fancy or unique (or super complicated) I think is like $30-35, because of material price + how long it takes to make. Shipping is basically however much it costs to ship, which means I have to package and weigh them. Ew, more work.

My bracelets are gonna be pretty cheap, since they're much easier to knit and I can churn out a pile in a few hours. Beanbags, I still have no idea, I'm thinking like $7 for the big nice ones and $5 for the regular nice ones. They take more time to sew + fabric + cost of rice stuffing.

Lastly, everything else. My sister still hates me with a burning passion, and has been demanding my mom to throw me out of the house, but at least I recovered all my stolen items (for like the third time), except two boxes of jewelry, including the handmade earrings/necklace graduation present by a best friend of mine, what I wore to formal dances/graduation, and some things from my trip to Europe.

On a happier note, I just celebrated my one-month anniversary with my BF, two days ago. Sometimes it seems like we've been going out for months and other days it seems like it's only been a week or two. He agrees. Not that I'm complaining, I love every minute of it, and he does too.

Lastly, I did promise myself that I'd pimp a REALLY REALLY OLD FIC of mine (aka the only one I've actually written). It's almost two years old now. And then ask my f-list for reviews. Because I got positive feedback from Assassin Chat which made me feel like maybe it's time to share this with people. Also, read to the end before judging, kthx. (It's part dream-based, part music-inspired, and I actually like it. Worked hard on it during school to get the prose just right without sounding ridiculous.)

Without further ado: DON'T JUDGE ME BLAME MY SUBCONSCIOUS.

Just goes to show how lazy/weird I am, posting about a movie I've just watched for the first time rather than, yanno, the Serenity event, graduation or that awesome Mafia game that just finished or anything like that.

28 Days was a pretty great movie, and exceeded all expectations I had of it, and then some.

What I thought about the movie 28 Days )
F-list, have you seen this? If not, shame on you, and go watch it now.
If you have, I'd LOVE to hear what you think.
